questionswhat's the story behind your username?

Weird. Downvotes? Y'all are mean.

Mine came from high school days. My friend started claiming that he was "Lothar of the Hill People." What I didn't realize at the time (and for many years later) was that he was referring to some SNL sketch. So, I decided to become "Lumpthar of the Lumpy People." When we'd see each other in the halls, I would yell, "Hail, Lothar!" and he would yell, "Hail, Lumpthar!"

It's such an odd name that no one (but me) has taken it as a username through the internet.

Simple, mine is the user-name for my email address I was given at college. I have a bad memory, so I use it for everything

I have worked in libraries for over 15 years and well...I kinda of look like Conan the Barbarian! lol!!!

If I told you, I'd have to kill you.

(If you knew me you'd understand)

@tsfisch: Really? In the world I worked in, no one ever used that phrase, and I've had nearly every clearance you could think of (although none in the DOE arena). Glad I'm retired. Very.

Mine comes from my real name, cuz I have nothing to hide :)

vote-for10vote-against

My name - "Jordan" and "711" - apparently where I was conceived...

Ha! Totally kidding...

...or am I?

vote-for10vote-against

Oh my. I always love this one.

The origin of "Lotsofgoats" is found at the juncture of a Discovery Channel documentary on bedouin herders and a very strange child.

... I'm half Indian, the feather kind. Jeremy is my first name. My friends in highschool just called me "Indian" or "Injun". It was my AIM name and now I go by JeremytheIndian everywhere on the net. It's never taken :)

TLDR: Way to many cartoons as a kid.. so many that in my head I merged multiple cartoons into a single cartoon starring "Space Zorro"

vote-for6vote-against

Couple initials and our old street name. My husband made it up. Wish I could change it!

vote-for5vote-against

My friends were way too into The Diceman.
It stuck all these years later.

@jeremytheindian: My wife is also half Native American, and I am from the UK. Go figure.

vote-for6vote-against

Well I am a rather grim person... like how I generally speak. I tend to use dark, often morbid analogies, and am a very pessimistic person.

I also have an obsession with skulls, well ok... perhaps not an obsession, perhaps fascination is a better word for it.

As for the 89 part in my name, that is just the year I was conceived... and only is used because some websites require that extra differentiation (like numbers or symbols).

I was gonna tell @CowboyDann's tale and @Gideonfrost's (I actually did, edited with this) but I figured I'd let THEM tell their tales.

Mine's not that interesting.

vote-for8vote-against

Mine is for my two professions, with my first initial in the middle...and there's also a somewhat melodramatic metaphor in there.

vote-for5vote-against

its from Moody Blues song. what?

vote-for5vote-against

@ruger9mm: My first as well. Not as pretty as my other ones but I shoot very well with it.

first2summit - I'm a mountain climber.

@drchops: You mean I gotta tell this story again? It's the third time now. Here was my story from last time

Modest Mouse Song. I've explained it in the past but I saw them play this song (cowboy dan) live at a festival and I expected a set of nothing but new stuff mostly because it was 2004 and I expected nothing but new songs. Then they played Cowboy Dan, mind was blown. Isaac went on a 10 minute jam on the song and it was pretty awesome. It was also m yfirst time seeing Modest Mouse live.

I chose cowboydann not because CowboyDan was taken but because that's the way it was written on setlists I had seen in the past (probably because of former member Dann Gallucci.)

this answer was expanded a little bit from the last time I answered it

Mine was originally part of my Xanga name (back when I was in high school in the early 2000s and everyone had a Xanga). Basically I'm a nerdy clarinet player, so I just combined the two words together. I liked the way that it sounded so I've used it at variously places online where it hasn't been already taken.

well back when I got my first xbox, i needed a screen name. It was like the first account I every made. I need a screen name that I thought was cool. Everyone was crowding around the tv to see what i was doing (christmas)So I had sto speed up. I chose allhighruler. Soon after the xbox 360 came out, I didn't know you could carry your account over. So my new name became undfeatable without the e because someone already took it. Now I use undfeatable on all sites that i trust, allhighruler on sites not so much. Well, in the beginning, woot was on that risky site list, but now its not and im stuck with it. If you were kind enough to read all this, I made you a cake (_), sorry I ate the top.

Mine is the name of a favorite role-playing character, a martial artist superhero from Champions.. When it's taken I use the name of a different role-playing character. The nice thing about using the superhero character names is you can use their hero name for your user name, and their secret identity for your password.

@spacezorro: Nice. And I'll add that pic is very CGA. Very 1992. :o)

vote-for5vote-against

Well, if mines is too hard to guess, it's my first and last name.

Seriously the easiest username I could remember.

Past usernames on other sites would be: thiswierdguy13, kiyoshi904, hirotoki360, urawful, disaznguy, konishi360, and other crap I can't remember. Seriously, I can't remember my other usernames.

vote-for6vote-against

not really alive at this moment in time

@allhighruler: LOL. Good find. Fortunately I didn't take that option for this character, as I have published him a couple of places. But I didn't know my Angelfire website was still up. I haven't been to it in years. I'll have to look at updating it.

Came up with this username back when I was reading the "Wheel of Time" series. My favorite character was a gambler, Matrim Cauthon, who I (in my own mind at least) share a number of personality traits with. A line he frequented was "time to throw the dice", wanted to use as a screen name but it was too long. Changed "throw" to "toss" and I still use it to this day.

R - I like the letter R, if you turn it sideways, it looks like a cannon.
O - I love the feeling I get before I P, therefore I am O.
B - 4AFTER (Is the last thing the old guy shouted at Bingo before I punched him in the face.
E - Only because it's the most common letter used in the alphabet. Alphabet soup hasn't figured this one out yet though :*(
Y - Under-appreciated, and confused. Am I a vowel? Why am I here? Besides, how else could you lead into the M, C, and A?
21 - Because it's the average number of work days in a month, AKA the days when I spend the most time on woot.

That, is definitely how I chose my username.

vote-for3vote-against

jer is my name and tyrael is the arch angel of justice in my favorite video game series.

Back in college, I bought my first domain name and I realized that even with my own domain name I had to pick a username to put in front of the @ for my email.

During lunch, I asked a group of people what I should pick and someone asked. "Well, what are you interests?" I said "a little bit of everything." They gave me the name "omnichad" since my first name is Chad.

I used it starting back in 2003 and it has been available as a username almost everywhere I go.

It's odd the things that I "outsourced" to a "committee" back then. When I first got my own apartment after college, I outsourced my Voicemail greeting to a whole group of friends:
