Are you impressed by brand names, or is generic more your style?
I grew up poor, wearing hand me downs and knock offs. In high school in the 80's it seemed that most of my friends had an alligator on their shirt, I had a random creature. When others had Nike shoes, I had random striped shoes. Then there was the time I wanted a Members Only jacket (remember those?) and got one for Christmas! I was so excited, till one of my snobbish classmates pointed out that it wasn't REALLY a Members Only jacket, but it was a copycat cheapo jacket. These experiences made me so excited to buy real brand names as an adult, but as I got older, it seemed stupid to pay so much more just to have a swoosh instead of random stripes. Even though I may be able to afford the brand names now, generic is more my style. To me, it's not a bargain even if the brand name is on sale for 75% off and is still twice the price of the generic. What do you think? Any experiences of snobbery as an adult ie. mine is better than yours because it's a (insert brand name here)?
