Has anyone added a 2/3 TB external hard drive to their Verizon FIOS DVR?
I just recieved a message that the software on my Verizon FIOS DVR has been upgraded and I now have the option of adding additional storage space via an external hard drive. Included in the message were a couple approved 1TB drives (I think they were Western Digital). I didn't want to be limited to WD and only 1TB. So I am wondering if anyone has had a positive experience adding a external harddrive to their FIOS DVR? I would prefer to add 2TB or 3TB of storage.
I have done some searching on the web and the Verizon help site. The recurring comment is that a must feature of the drive is '3gbps throughput'. Other than that I'm only finding a mixed bag of info.
Thank you

Really nobody? (the sounds of crickets in the background)
Bueller? Bueller?....Is this thing turned on?
Still waiting.....
Maybe I need to spend the time and figure this out. Then I can post the answer here.....
I have added a 3 terabyte western digital drive to my verizon fios dvr box. I already have successfully attached a 500 gb hitachi drive and it has changed everything. I can finally record in hd. I wanted to up the space so i bought the 3 terabyte drive. I saw now difference in extra space so i am considering returning it and buying a 1 terabyte drive. I will report back if i can get it to work.
I have successfully added a Seagate 1TB Barracuda HDD.
TECH stuff: 1TB 32MB (cache) 7200RPM ST310005N1A1AS-RK
Enclosed in a Sabrent 3.5" SATA/IDE Hard Drive Aluminum Enclosure.
(I wrote which enclosure I used as reference for what works, just in case anyone wanted to know what I used. Not trying to advertise or anything like that)
I hope this helps.
I just added a Western Digital WD Elements 2 TB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive.
Had to remove the eSATA drive from the original case and put it in one compatible with the FIOS eSATA plug. A $25 add on.
So far 20 hrs HD recorded - 6% full
Will let you know what happens when I get to 50%.
