@unoriginal26: Thank you! I would have been sad if I came in this thread and no one had posted inconceivable! :)

I learned an interesting fact about the movie recently.

I think most people will generally agree that the best-acted scene was the one where Inigo finally avenged his father's murder. How did Mandy Patinkin bring forth such a visceral performance?

(This is sad, but really shows how a good actor can channel their emotions into a part.)

Mandy's father had recently died of cancer. Mandy decided that cancer was Count Rugen and played the scene as though he was sword fighting the cancer that took his father. When he told Rugen, "I want my father back, you son of a bitch," he was talking to the cancer and truly meant every word.

He said that it was incredibly therapeutic to be able to play out those feelings in such a way.

Now why didn't somebody design a shirt to coincide with this anniversary?!?!

Have fun storming the castle!

I do not mean to pry, but you don't by any chance happen to have six fingers on your right hand?

That may be the first time in my life a man has dared insult me.

A bit late, but if anyone is still following this thread, I came across this picture today and thought you might enjoy it. "The Princess Bride" cast 25 years later:

Aw, you guys. I was hoping to see all these goofy responses when I clicked on the question.

This was a "Med Cruise Movie" which played in the Ready Room during one of my husband's deployments. The squadron watched that movie just about every day & they all could quote it just about line for line! When they got home from deployment, by the end of any function quotes from the movie would manage to work their way into the evening.

Because I loved this movie, when I got my very first cell phone, I wanted the brief bit of "fluttering" music that plays as Buttercup jumps out the castle window & falls into Fezzik's arms as my ring tone. You know, I think I still do. Yeah, I'm weird like that.

I actually saw this in the theater on opening night. Didn't go for it, but the action flick or horror film was sold out or broken or something.

I even have the opening night 45rpm that they gave away to the first hundred or so people in the theater.

Incidentally, has anyone else read the book that this movie was based on?

And will SOMEONE SOMEWHERE finally print this shirt. I've been waiting forever.

I wish you would have said "of the movie." The book's 25th anniversary was a few years ago. By the way, if you haven't read the book you are missing a whole lot of the fun of The Princess Bride. Although I will admit that I read the books seeing/hearing the actors as their respective characters because they were so well done.

Also, little known fact, the tried getting Arnold Schwarzenegger instead of Andre the Giant (I'm so glad they didn't)

@pitamuffin: Do you think they will make it? It's gonna take a miracle!

I knew it was 25 years old. Oddly watching this movie every year on new years day has been a tradition in my house since it came out on VHS. Yes, I said VHS, (at least I didn't say we had it on Beta Max)! I love this movie and I am just happy that my wife and daughter love it as well!

Why after all of these years would one remember this event? I can't even remember it after scratching my head!

@chellemonkey: You're right. I should have specified that it was the anniversary of the movie. You're even more right that Andre was the best choice for the roll.
