She can also try lots of demos from the Playstation Store; if she shows an interest in any, buy it then. So, maybe a gift card for future purchases?

Call me crazy, but Heavy Rain might be a good choice for both of you. Heavy intensive plot for the gamer in you, and simple dialouge choices, and easy-ish control scheme for the lack of gaming expereince in her. Its pretty cheap right now so if she doesnt like it, you are not out too much.

Demo's are a great way to try things out. If she is not a real gamer but likes cute little jump across ledges/platforms in a friendly environment that does not try to make fun of you if your fail I suggest Little Big Planet 2. Can play stages already created, make your own or download ones people have custom made. Plays well both single and multiplayer.

Try a dancing game like Just Dance or Dance Central. We have these for Wii and Xbox. I'm not sure which titles PS3 offers. They are a hit with my teen daughter. The kids have "dance parties" as part of game night at each other's homes. Also, my pre-teen son and young adult son will play from time to time. Even my husband will.

All of these are good ideas. LittleBigPlanet is great. The online community is great for 1 & 2. The dance game may be good for keeping active, but I think it may require the Move system.
I wouldn't recommend Heavy Rain because, to me, it is sooo slow. I might have enjoyed it better watching the story, not watching for control cues.

Virtua Tennis 4. In my experience, the Virtua Tennis series was always really open to non-gamers. It's fancy Pong. I would play number 2 on the Dreamcast with friends, family, and random people, and it was a good fun light competitive game.

And it's $15 on Amazon... so it's cheap. Think I'll go buy myself a copy now that I'm thinking about it.

@teenracer6: I will say that depending on the "Teen-ness" you may want to check out additional info on Heavy Rain prior to purchase. I'm no prude, but I will say the game has what I would consider "unacceptable material" for a 12-14 year old. Just sayin'.

@fraxcat: If you are reffering to me, I am 21. I am just too lazy to pick a new handle.

Little Big Planet. The game mechanics are easy for lite gamers, the goals are simple yet challenging, and the characters will be described as "adorable"

Little Big Planet, like a lot of people are displaying here, I have to agree 100%, my kids love it, I love it, and if my wife would take a minute to play, she loved it too.

Also, to think about this one: Little Big Planet 2. Another fantastic game to play. Hope this helps!
