It is called competition...

The more choices, the merrier. I don't recall ever seeing a samsclub posting here before. Their relatively new presence here is also a pretty good statement about deals.woot.com's weight in the marketplace.

while wal-mart and amazon are at each other's throats, Sam's Club and Woot are cordial.
keep your friends close...

@magic cave: Sam's deals have been posted from time to time.

costco seems to be the leader of the club warehouse style store.
Quality seems higher, and trends seem to start with costco that are later picked up by sams/bj's.

I've noticed that sams is expanding a lot here in norcal over the last 1-2 years, and several sam's club warehouses have opened up within 1 block of costco stores around here... to me it looks like a shot across the bow, a direct & public challenge to costco.

Just a slight bit of information... You all do know that Sam's Club is a subsidiary of Walmart, right? I've seen Sam's Club deals here right along, although the account @samsclub is quite new. I think that whoever's behind it is just learning the ropes, but that's always the way of things, isn't it?

It's also been on a sponsored deal or two...

I think that postings on Deals can have a direct and noticeable affect on the bottom line, even for large businesses (and certainly for small ones).

@shrdlu: I was noting it because of the timing of the water storage post.

@rlapid2112: and i was noting my point because i wear a tin foil hat, for fashion sometimes. it's in now ;-)

vote-for5vote-against

@w00tgurl: Tin foil hats are ALWAYS in fashion. They go with everything, and are in season all the time.

@kamikazeken: I must be getting tired; after reading your post, I visualized a Costco across the street from a Sam's Club. The managers notice each other through their respective telescopes. They order their associates to hoist the main sales & open the gun ports. A full and smoky battery of cannon balls fly between the stores, smashing big screen TVs and photo processing. then someone from Sam's commandeers the trampolines and press gangs the associates from their Walmart allies to setup the trampolines to deflect the cannon balls.

SO AWESOME!

Wish there was a Costco or Sam's Club near here....oh, the Ozarks...I miss civilization. Here near Fort Lost in Woods.

You guy's also realize that when places put items on sale, they get vendor compensation. Usually the vendor puts the item on sale, and must stores that carry it follow. Which is why you see the same items on sale at multiple places.

@thisiskevin32: Read full question. @walmart posted a counter deal that I found at Costco & wooted.

vote-for2vote-against

@rlapid2112: Umm, I don't think Wal Mart/Sam's Club is setting product prices as a result of what some guy on Woot found.

vote-for2vote-against

@wootbretz: Not what I was implying, but that would be awesome. What i was implying is the @samsclub is monitoring and/or watching, then posting similar deals from Sam's Club. This implication means that major retailers may be taking this site seriously. Lots of implications & conclusion jumping on my part, but I am a conspiracy oriented anyways.

vote-for3vote-against

@rlapid2112: Fair enough. Now more cannon balls and trampolines. Let's see if they really are paying attention to you.

vote-for3vote-against

@wootbretz: that sounds like a challenge. @samsclub beat this deal!

vote-for3vote-against

@tracej: oh man!
first they came for costco, and i didn't speak out because i didn't belong to costco

then they came for woot, and i didn't speak out because i wasn't employed by woot

then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak out for me

vote-for3vote-against

@rlapid2112: You pointed out the same thing as had been pointed out in the comment I linked to.

I wonder if that deal would have made Popular if it hadn't got all the attention, though. Still pretty funny. I also suspect that whoever posts the Sam's Club deals has been around on Deals for a while, under other accounts. Too funny, and thanks for the entertainment this question has been. :-D

Still waiting for cannonballs.

@wootbretz: typically delivered at high velocities via long iron tube...

Costco can charge lower prices because they don't let anyone piggyback off somebody else's membership at least where I'm from. Each person requires a membership to buy any item. Sam's Club lets many people buy off the same membership. Thinking back as well all the items I've seen at Costco that I was interested in I found cheaper at Sam's Club and I'm not even a Sam's Club fan boy.

vote-for2vote-against

@cornutnc: BJs will also let you, sorta. i got the free 60 day membership and, well i would pass my membership card to a friend so we'd both checkout individually using our own credit cards for our own items.
now he has the free 60 day membership and he passes me his card to checkout with. it's better when we do self-checkout IMO, but we've done it with a person checking us out too. they scan it once in the beginning. some keep the card during the transaction then return after but whatevs.

vote-for2vote-against

@w00tgurl: Really, it's always good to know what stores will and what stores won't because I always feel like a dumba#$ with a cart load of embarrassment if they don't. Didn't know if the dumba#$ would be censored that's why I wrote it that way but I think it adds to the image haha.

vote-for2vote-against

@cornutnc: I have checked out of Costco & Sam's with other people's cards. Never a problem.

vote-for1vote-against

@rlapid2112: I'm sure it's that way in some places for Costco but definitely not where I live. I've had it happen to me personally. It was even one of my family members with the card. I then vowed to steer clear of such foolishness and rediculousness. Sam's club has always been no problem for me better to not risk it in my mind. Like I said I'm no fan boy of either. That's just my experience.

vote-for1vote-against

@cornutnc: also to be fair about my description, i don't let them see me passing the card around. and i don't call it out, like "here, use my card" out loud. i do it as discreetly as possible.
they just scan it without looking or checking the name, so it works for me. if they started doing that then i'd be busted. but then i'd just ask my friend to pay for it and i'd pay them back.
