I love Amazon Prime! Makes shopping for birthdays & holidays so much easier! With deals.woot & Amazon Prime you can never go wrong! Worth every penny!

I have it. I don't care about video on demand. For that matter, I don't care about stupid MP3s, and wish that Amazon would allow me to choose what they shove at me. Then again, now that I'm stuck with the much maligned NEW!!! and Look! More Ads! Less Navigability! We're So COOL!!! new Amazon, I doubt I will renew it.

I'm price insensitive, for the most part. I've started purchasing from Barnes and Noble where it makes sense (although I'll continue to purchase Kindle books).

Amazon Prime was a nice way for me to get things quicker. I ordered at least two expensive items that more than equaled the original cost. I think it's a personal issue, really. For some folks that do a lot of shopping on Amazon, it's worthwhile. It seems to be most useful for those that can get the special discounts (like the student one).

@jsoko: Thanks for the links a lot to think about.

It's worth it. The convenience factor is huge, plus when you see that $7 bluray, you don't have to force yourself to buy other stuff to get the free shipping. As already said, it's great during the holidays, too. The free movies is probably still a secondary benefit for me, but it's been nice for me to catch up on 24 episodes I missed.

To me, for the shipping it's worth every penny. I paid the full price after a 30 day trial.
I use the video on demand on my Kindle Fire as well as on my PC. Watched three seasons of Dexter in less than a week.... (which is why I gave it up for Lent).
YES it is a gimmick but I am a willing lackey.

I usually get downvoted for saying this (not sure why, just my opinion), but no, in my opinion it's not worth it. You can get free shipping with amazon by simply coming up with a $25 order, which is not hard to do. Granted it's a little slower shipping but for $80 a year or what not I can wait.

I had the student free amazon prime last year. While it was nice when I had it, I didn't use it enough to bother to get it again. And with free shipping on orders over $25 shipping free anyways, it just not worth it for me

@tsfisch: Agree. Free is free; prime is not free. If you want the convenience of getting items faster by paying a yearly fee that's okay, too. And I understand that. I'm not in a hurry - don't wait to the last minute to order & have no problems reaching the $25 order requirement.

@tsfisch: for me I find that it is worth it for things that I need quickly if I factor in the gas/tolls I save not going out to the store for it, as well as the other stuff I would likely buy along with it (that I don't need) if I actually step foot in a store. I am a person that stores with "free shipping after spending $xx" programs absolutely love because I generally don't wait. I just keep shopping around on the site and find things I "probably" (don't) need to order along with it to get the discount. So my prime membership has saved me more than the cost of it for sure. However, if someone is patient and less of an impulse buyer, then it would not be as useful. Also, I do watch the videos and use the Kindle lending library - but both of those I found out after I had prime membership and are more reasons for me to renew, not what brought me to the table in the first place.

I am with @tsfisc. I just don't order enough to warrant a use for Prime.

$80 a year is totally worth it IMO, I save that in the first month alone. I find myself getting quite angry that when I order something from another site it takes longer than 2 days to get it or that I have to pay some ridiculous shipping fee to get it in 2 days. I do subscribe and save from everything from toilet paper to coffee, it saves me gas, mileage, and dealing with crowds. Not to mention I put it all on my amazon credit card and earn triple points, which then get's paid off every month. I easily earn $50 of free stuff a month, which saves me even more money. I'm also able to share it with up to 4 coworkers, each of which has paid me $20 to do so, so my membership has cost me nothing. It really is a no brainer...

@10achik: I did not know you could share it. So you have a shared login? How do you handle the payments? Just don't store your credit card info in there? And the recommendations go off of the collective purchases? I do not look at those myself, but my husband does.

What about ship-to addresses? You just keep a 4-way address book? What about wish lists? And save in your cart until later?

It's absolutely worth it imo. They didn't have the VOD service when I first got it, but it's a nice perk. I mainly got it for the holiday shopping. It more then pays for itself when they run all of their lightning deals after Thanksgiving into December.

Yes & yes I just wish they would extend it to the woot sites.

@bnbsouthworth: Here is what it says via amazon "Prime members under a free trial or paid subscription can share their shipping benefits with up to 4 additional family members living in the same household, or up to 4 coworkers to shop for the related account.

To invite family members to share your Amazon Prime membership, sign in to Your Account and click on the link to "Manage Prime Membership." You'll see your current membership details, the status of all members linked to your Amazon Prime membership, and options to add or remove members."

They sign into their own accounts and use their own prime, there's no sharing of accounts or anything like that. Now I'm not sure how long that will last, everyone I shared with still uses it and I gave it to them a few months ago.
