LLBean makes some great sweatshirts as does Lands End. Well, Lands' End used to. I haven't bought anything from them since they were sold a couple of times, but it might be worth a trip to your local Sears to see.
I also have a great sweatshirt I got in college. It's a "Russell Pro Cotton". Great, heavy sweatshirt that I love.

American Giant

I believe they would be Woot community approved.

I agree on Russell sweatshirts. I have one that is about 20 years old and only showing wear at the cuffs.

Everything I've read and heard about American Giant has been positive.

Champion reverse weave. At least they used to be. Haven't bought a new one in a long time, so can't speak to current quality. But the ones I've had have taken heavy wear. The cuffs and collar wear out eventually (many years of use), but the rest of it keep going.

Champion. Although I'm willing to give American Giant a shot when I move back to the States in a few months.

I'm surprised no one has said Under Armour yet. They're very well made, warm, and extremely soft. They're excellent sweat shirts. The only down side is that they are extremely overpriced and rarely go on sale.

American giant looks nice but $60-$90 for a sweatshirt is a bit too pricey for me.
