Earth Defense Force 2017.

This is a ridiculously fun game. It's a 3rd person arcade shooter, B-movie-style. The controls are simple and the game offers split screen co-op.

It kept me occupied all last summer when I was counseling at a local camp. It's campy and the voice acting is cheesy, but man I couldn't put this game down.

My 4 year old likes Sonic 4, and the pixar cars racing game.

There is plenty out there for the young gamer. Definitely check out the Lego series of games. They have Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, Rock Band, and Batman out and all are good games. They are all rated E for everyone. Disney games such as Bolt & Wall-E would likely also be a good fit, as would Viva Pinata and Beautiful Katamari.

Lego Rock Band had the best line up of songs since Guitar Hero 2.
Ghostbusters FTW

Whoops!

I thought you were looking for a game for your "4 year old Xbox360" and not a 4 year old person.

In that case, Earth Defense Force 2017 has some mild fantasy violence, not sure if you wanted to expose your 4 year old to that.

Still, it's a great game. One of my favorite. :D

I was about to mention that I meant 4 year old child. good clarification. Nothing with guns or swords or hitting people (rules my wife laid down)

@czarmatt: I thought that too upon first glance. Edited a bit.

@djbowman: That rules out the lego games, which is unfortunate. They are very well done and fun for kids and parents (we're pretty protective of our kids, but the lego violence just seems okay).

I recommend Miner Dig Deep. It's an inexpensive Indie d/l. My daughter enjoyed some of the Burnout games when she was that age. Lot's of crashing and explosions without any violence to people or animals. I'm sure I could come up with more, but most of our kid friendly games are on the Wii.

Any Halo game.

Don't worry that it's M-rated. Apparently no one else's moms care. When I go online all I hear are squeaky little kids on there cursing up a storm.

My wife will be out of town for a day or two next weekend so I may try out some lego games with him and see how he does. Then if hes not all violent after that then I will ease them in on her. Some of my fondest memories with my dad was when he would wait until my mom was gone and then let me play Doom on his work laptop. I must have been 8 so 4 is a little early but...

@djbowman: Lego is to Doom as getting a shot at the Dr.'s office is to getting shot by a gang member.
