Pictures, please? And no, I didn't order it. Woot's crap has seemingly become exactly that lately.

vote-for12vote-against

@magic cave You said: "...But we can't promise you it won't be a ring, necklace, earrings, bracelet or a whole set worth AT LEAST $50 retail." <----kinda a double negative.

They can't promise it won't. I guess they can't promise it will be anything worth $50 retail. Or maybe I'm misreading that. Sorry for the true crap. Lots of lessons learned recently.

vote-for9vote-against

@jsimsace: If I can find our camera, I'll take a picture. (We have old dumb phones without photo capability.) It's not that the earrings are bad looking, exactly; it's that they're what you might expect from a 15-year-old who just took a beginner class in making wire jewelry.

vote-for13vote-against

@magic cave: Aw. I'm sorry to hear this. Since you bought it through Amazon, i think you are allowed to return it, no questions asked. I expect most stuff on Woot to be junk, but if they say the value is about $50, then it ought to be something better than what it sounds like you have.

I dropped back to buying wine only (with a very few exceptions, but still only purchases from wine dot woot), after a few disappointments. You have my total sympathy.

:-(

vote-for12vote-against

Okay, I think I have a semi-decent picture (special thanks to @belyndag who posted a tutorial for tinypic.com back in October). Sorry there's so much reflection on the ruler, but you can get a fairly good sense of the 1/2" non-bling dangle part of the earring. Anyone think that's remotely close to a $50 value?

vote-for10vote-against

@shrdlu: Thank you for your kind words. It was apparently supplied by and shipped from Edgewater Collections in Miami. They appear to be a legitimate company which has sold a lot of merchandise through Woot, but I don't see anything on their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/edgewatercollection that even remotely resembles what they sent me. They evidently do a lot of Woot sales through the accessories and sellout tabs, judging by the number of photos and text on their FB page about upcoming Woot events.

Did I buy this from Woot or from Amazon? And does the "Amazon payment" setup let me return the item for any reason? I'd be embarrassed to give this to anyone as a gift, and CraigsList is out of the question. Perhaps I'll just keep it as an object lesson of how very, very far Woot has fallen from the good ol' days.

Dang! I ordered the mystery box and mine is scheduled to be delivered Monday. Hope I get a better deal than this.

vote-for13vote-against

Oh...that's bad! I make better earrings, and I consider myself a beginner! Just ouch, I'm glad I passed!

vote-for9vote-against

@belyndag: I hope so too. I was really hoping for some of the clunky plastic blue sapphire stuff; every now and then, it's the perfect piece of blingy kitsch. Having met @lavikinga, I can easily see her sashaying around in the slinky blue dress and that necklace. I wanna look like that in my next life.

vote-for9vote-against

@belyndag: You will let us know what you get, right? Maybe even a picture?

vote-for8vote-against

I ordered one but then I got a nagging feeling that I would be very disappointed so I cancelled the order. After seeing your photo, I'm glad I did.
I hope you can return those earrings for a refund!

vote-for9vote-against

@magic cave: WOW! I wouldn't be disappointed if this is what showed up in my mail box. I'd be PISSED. Not even through 3 Martini goggles would those earrings ever seem like they'd approximate $10 retail.

BTW, I know for a fact that magic blue dress comes in your size and would look great with your coloring. I found a matching pair of "catch me" pumps from Nine West. I figured what I saved on buying that plastic costume crap I could use for shoes. My husband cocked his head at that bit of logic.

In the meantime, I found this stunner of a dress to take on a post-Christmas holiday trip to Charleston (husband is full of surprises!). It's my first attempt at posting an image.

[img][/img]

Out of the package, this dress is maybe 14 inches wide. It's a challenge to put on, but WHOA.

vote-for9vote-against

@shrdlu: I've started buying my wine through WTSO.com Haven't had a bad batch yet. Usually the best prices to be found too. Always ships to me for free because I buy the required amount of bottles AND gets to me usually in less than a week. LESS THAN A WEEK! No more waiting and then forgetting what I've ordered when it shows up at my door.

I've had to switch to whites recently as reds seem to be making me pretty darned sick within 45 minutes of drinking more than a glass. THIS is killing me since all I have are reds on my racks and I can't touch them!

That blue plastic sapphire necklace wasn't such a bad deal after all. It just needed a little love.

vote-for9vote-against

@magic cave: Do you have a link to her tutorial ? I have been struggling trying to find a way to post my pics of BOC.
Thanks !

Bummer about the jewelry. I had it in my cart and then decided, not.
I'd try to send it back. They made a big deal in their pitch to use Amazon check out , that items would be covered by "Amazon's A-Z guarantee." http://www.woot.com/forums/viewpost.aspx?postid=5632014&pageindex=1&replycount=31

vote-for9vote-against

@lavikinga: So what do the shoes look like ? Shoes I could fit in. That dress? A couple years ago maybe...... sigh

vote-for10vote-against

@magic cave: Will definitely post pix. Fingers are crossed that I get something decent. I have to admit that I bought a random mystery box of jewelry from "another site" a while back, and got MUCH better stuff than this. None of the chunky modern stuff, but a nice assortment of silver with colored gemstones. I think I got two pair of earrings and a necklace for about the same price as this deal. I need to find it and see.

@ceagee: I will try to track down where I posted the directions for tinyurl and post the link. I would just do the entire thing again, but I spent some time on that one cutting out pieces of screenshots so it would be a LOT easier to just refer you there. Give me a few minutes to find it.

vote-for8vote-against

@ceagee: The TinyPic tutorial is about 1/3 of the way down the page here. I will try to copy and paste the text and pix below, too.

vote-for8vote-against

@belyndag: Ya beat me to it. That's what I get for sleeping in and then going to breakfast with The Spouse before checking on woot stuff.

@ceagee: By the way, I dug out a very old question I asked years ago to use as a testing ground when I'm trying to post a photo or vidclip. That way I can delete the bad ones immediately without risking one getting posted in error on the "live" question. And if I do a major goof and actually post something in error, it really won't matter since no one's going to be looking at it.

vote-for8vote-against

@lavikinga: I will love you forever for even suggesting I could wear that dress!

vote-for8vote-against

@magic cave: Little lady, you CAN wear that dress and your husband would be lost in the amazing cleavage it creates. You have to have confidence in your self and OWN the fact you are a beautiful woman. (And don't say you're not. I've SEEN you, gurl!)

vote-for9vote-against

@ceagee and others: Regarding refunds, as far as I can determine Woot is the "third-party seller" involved in this Amazon Payment transaction, and Woot generally does returns/refunds only when merchandise is defective. I probably won't bother trying.

It was a mystery item. You pays your money, and you takes your chances. While mystery items are always dicey, I looked at the other blingy stuff being offered, assumed Woot was trustworthy, and ordered one. You can see the other blingy stuff still being sold here http://accessories.woot.com/plus/new-year-new-bling . The mystery box is "sold out," but you can still click the link to see how it was advertised.

This isn't a matter of merely not liking what I received; I actually assumed I probably wouldn't like it. The annoyance is simply that I doubt the earrings would sell for $7.99 at retail, let alone be "AT LEAST $50 retail." No great loss, just a lesson learned, especially about literary license in descriptions.

vote-for8vote-against

@belyndag: Thanks. I'll give it a whirl . Got to get wrapping first ! I'm behind.
@magic cave Appreciate the tip on practice posts.

@lavikinga : I'm impressed. In college I had some mile high heals on and twisted an ankle, which resulted in a bad sprain. Walking around in snow w/ crutches kept me off such heights in the many years since.
Good for you that you can do it ! Is there a trick ?

vote-for7vote-against

@ceagee: Yup, the trick is to wear a heel which has a platform. The platform visually lengthens the leg, but makes the heel feel comfortably lower. Learned the trick last year. Only slight drawback is when you're a woman who is over 5'10" you have to be prepared to deal with the stares when your freakself strolls into a room. Walk carefully & stay sober.

vote-for9vote-against

@ceagee: You're behind? Geez! I'm INCREDIBLY behind! Nearly nothing to wrap! No tree, no baking, few gifts. Home in bed with temp over 101. Argh!

vote-for8vote-against

@belyndag: I'm so sorry to hear you're sick. Try this: close your eyes, and let it all go.

I think of as my "throwing things overboard" system: what can I actually live without in this situation? What one thing do you really, really need to do to make the holiday feel okay? Tree? Baking? One gift for each person?

I hope you feel better soon.

vote-for8vote-against

@belyndag: Hope you feel better soon and are able to enjoy the holidays.

@magic cave has some good advice. I think I might take it ;-) I have officially given up on my out of town package. I thought it might be worth the express charges, cause other wise it's 4 different out of town packages instead of 1.
Oh well. They'll be fine and it's all good. Who knows, they might get a little extra homemade goody now that the time limit is gone.
I may try and make it out tomorrow w/ my Dad for the sole reason that he wants me to go with him.
I actually still need to pick up something, so that will work out. Maybe. Big ice storms, flood watch and all that.

vote-for6vote-against

@lavikinga: The ones I feel off had a platform. Do you remember "Candies" back in the late 70's early 80s ?
But thanks for the tip anyways. I guess some of us are meant to wear flats.
5'10 isn't freakish. It's model territory. walk proud. {I'm short btw}

vote-for5vote-against

@magic cave: You know, I think the overboard system is what I used this year. We brought down all the decorations from the overhead, and they're all sitting in the garage much to my husband's dismay--what a mess.

We only put lights on the house and hung about an 1/8 of the ornaments we normally hang. Not even my treasured ornaments from my grandmother are on there. I had gotten distracted while decorating it & stopped. We both decided it was pretty enough as is.

Other than the wreath on the door, we have no other decorations. No garland festooned on the mantel, no "Jesus Action Figures", no Rudolph village with its marauding dinosaurs, no nutcrackers, nothing else.

I felt a little guilty for a few days, but now I've realized with everything I have going on, this is enough, and sometimes less is really more. All I know is this year I feel a little lighter inside and less wrapped up about the holidays. I think I like this feeling.

vote-for8vote-against

I ordered that for my wife, I thought it would be fun for her to get a surprise in the mail :-) She got this set

http://shadora.com/products/mestige-iris-crystal-pendant-and-earrings-set-made-with-swarovski-elements

It's not bad as far as price goes and it looks nice enough for her to wear out. Surprisingly, this picture doesn't really do it justice, it doesn't look like costume jewelry. The pendant needs a new chain but that wasn't a problem.

vote-for7vote-against

@nmchapma: That set is beautiful -- sleek, simple, versatile. Good for you and your great taste! I've accumulated a fairly good inventory of gold and silver chains over the years, and it's more common than not (for me, anyway) to prefer a different chain than the one that comes with almost any pendant I buy.

Your wife is a lucky lady.

If I recall correctly, you recently had an out of town assignment and your wife is busy with school. I hope you both have a wonderful, peaceful, and restful Christmas and New Year!

vote-for4vote-against

@ceagee: Back in 1994 I broke my my right ankle and it's been a bit wobbly ever since. One of my earliest thoughts was, "Oh GOOD! No more high heels!" (I love the way they look; I just hate wearing them.)

I've fallen and sprained that same ankle three times since, and I broke my right tibia just above the ankle in October 2011.

It's gonna be flats for me forever, apparently.

vote-for8vote-against

@magic cave: It wasn't my taste, that's what I got in the mystery set :-) You're memory is impressive. My time in Colorado was...interesting. I did damage assessments and on-site roadway design for the flood damage. It was exhausting, I had three 120 hour weeks and a forth 80 hour week, but I also doubled my pay. I saw unbelievable damage, the power of water is something everyone talks about, but seeing it first hand was a humbling experience. I have a few photos (I took over 600 for inventory and documentation purposes) to share when I get a chance to upload them.

Best wishes for the holidays :-)

vote-for3vote-against

@nmchapma: Take credit anyway for the good taste in jewelry! (And share the pictures whenever you find time.)

vote-for7vote-against

@magic cave: I just received the SAME exact pair of junky earrings. My husband said that they looked like something you make the first night of a Jewelry 101 class......I agree. I have seen better stuff at the dollar store........................can they be returned? they hardly are worth what the mystery box cost, let alone 50.00.

vote-for6vote-against

@geekypanda13: I'm not sure if I'm happy to hear from you ("Oh, goodie, I'm not the only one!") or sad (Oh, darn, someone else got stuck with this piece of junk, too.").

Did you pay for it using the Amazon Payments system? If so, it's possible to try for a refund with Amazon based on the manufacturer's Facebook page, where nothing shown looks as crappy as what we received, and the Woot description, where the term "literary license" seems to mean "outright lying fraudulent blather."

I have no idea how such an attempt would play out, given Woot's usual reluctance to refund on an item merely because you don't like what you received.

I haven't decided yet if I'm going to attempt a refund or not. I do know that it's time for Woot to reassess its relationship with [hawk spit] Edgewater Collection and their crappy merchandise.

vote-for7vote-against

@geekypanda13: It also occurs to me that Woot may have been ripped off in this deal as well. Since the earrings came directly from Edgewater Collections, it's likely they're a drop-shipper, which would mean Woot paid them for the merchandise. It's also likely WC provided a range or selection of items Woot's purchaser approved. Since we know that @nmchapma received nice merchandise, we know that not everyone received crap, but I'd really like to know what percentage of buyers got these earrings. It appears to me that EC may have padded their profit margin by dumping this stuff, which just looks totally different from everything I could see on their FB page.

vote-for4vote-against

@magic cave: Well, no point in posting a picture of the earrings I got as they are identical to the ones you received. Urgh. Didn't realize they were my random Woot deal at first as the packaging only says it's coming from the Edgewater folks.

Drat! Wish I knew someone who would like these enough to gift them to. (Bad grammar there.) Count me disappointed, too.

vote-for1vote-against

I also received some funky ads earrings too!!! Thought I'd take a chance c what happens! Well SH T happens folks.
