Is there any way to categorize the deals?
Would like a way to sort or filter by - i.e. smartphones, LCD screens, laptop deals, etc

Agreed--it would be nice if the deals were grouped by type, or could be, at any rate.
The tag feature is intended an open ended system for this - click the tag you want and see all the related deals grouped together. Obviously it's only as good as accuracy selecting same tags is - we'll be looking at ways to assist that accuracy of tag inputing (or subsequent editing) moving forward. Search for a tag with the # symbol in front, or search normal and the search will pick up mention in the title or description of items.
@snapster: Could you do something that suggests similar tags? For example if I search for a "monitor" tag it might say "hey, I got this thing over here with a "LCD" tag, try this" That probably isn't the best example, but if your algorithm found certain tags were usually used together it could use that to generate suggestion tags for something that hasn't been fully tagged.
@fenstar: When you add a deal you start by giving us a URL and we do our best to look up the product's details (title, price, thumbnail, etc). We take that information and find similar matching deals. We use the similar matching deals to identify which tags are most common in the group and suggest those tags as a starting point. We're counting on users looking all this data over and making improvments as they see fit.
In your example if you post a deal URL that we identify as a "Apple 24 inch monitor" we might find a group of similar deals tagged "LCD" and we'd suggest "LCD" as a tag, even though the product title didn't actually contain that text.
@shawnmiller: Sounds good.
I have to agree. Tags are OK, but I think a general "category" selection should also be used, as people fail on tags all the time. Computer, wine, clothing, electronics, video, automotive, toys, etc. This would make searching much easier as well.
Perhaps deals could also be sorted by price ranges? E.g. $0-$10, $10-$50, etc.
@orubin: Agree! Categories make it easier to bypass/reject items you feel are of no interest; speeds up my shopping time and I prefer it.
