Are the words "creditable" and "credible" synonyms?
Webster's dictionary says the synonymous relationship between these two words is obsolete. As a regular user of the English language I would agree.
Discuss.
"Creditable" seems most often to be defined as deserving of praise or recognition, while "credible" is defined as trustworthy and believable.
Same root, perhaps, but significantly different meanings, as far as I can tell.
MC is correct.
Creditable means "deserving credit (recognition...)"
Credible means "trustworthy, legitimate"
