I wouldn't let anyone new in without a specific need.

That is, are the 11,000 eligible members giving you what you need in the beta test? If not, do you expect the 35k green boxers to bring it?

Look at your logs. Are you getting lots of hits daily? How has it tapered off from when you first let people use it? Do you want to waste that "burst" of initial traffic for this? Will it assist in testing/development in some way? How does that assistance compare with the needs of the rest of your business (marketing, service, branding, etc.)?

I urge you not to make the decision without considering those factors.

vote-for11vote-against

gotta let everyone in at some point or the other...

vote-for6vote-against

@josefresno: Fantastic point! Your MBA is in the mail! (kidding)

vote-for3vote-against

Out of curiosity, what is the total number of wooters? If you let too many in, than this doesn't remain a beta anymore, it becomes a fully active site. I am all for green boxers coming in, as some of them have been around longer than I have and are more adept at testing the limitations of the site than I am, for instance "Lem-".

Maybe determine who comes in by quality posts.

vote-for13vote-against

@sgoman5674: 2.3 million total with just under 1 million active purchasers. Beta itself doesn't mean contained in any way, just that it's still under revision.

vote-for5vote-against

@fgarriel: certainly those factors are considered - we're asking for user perspective here. Of primary consideration is adoption of activities and principles required to reach critical mass and higher quality of deals up top and flowing by. Certainly, the more the merrier there, but we also want to have our ears open for things to address to improve the quality of introduction. There are already some key things to be implemented before this next round but we're simultaneously asking you and other site users for user perceptions.

vote-for12vote-against

Ah, in that case, open the gates. More users = better deals & more bug finding. The downside is that we're going to be answering usability questions again... gotta do that sooner or later.

In short, I echo @josefresno's comment: gotta let everyone in at some point.

vote-for4vote-against

BTW, if my comments steer a thread in the wrong direction, just delete them. Certainly no hurt feelings on my side.

vote-for10vote-against

I think it's a good plan, incrementing the box colors separately. If the bug posts and site questions have tapered off... let the next batch in. Also... (if you aren't already) track the questions that get asked repeatedly with each new floodgate opening. May be FAQ worthy.

vote-for3vote-against

@unixrab & @snapster: Is there a FAQ for Deals.woot.com? Perhaps you should institute this before letting green boxers on. Also when you navigate to deals.woot.com from elsewhere (at least during beta testing) you should have a link to the FAQ in bold for the newcomers and veterans to check out if their question has been asked.

vote-for4vote-against

Yeah, sure. I've enjoyed being here - they will to.

This site keeps growing on me. And more users will lead to more input (of deals and comments).

Keep tweaking it!
It is a great site - IMHO.

vote-for4vote-against

Please make a specific area to post bugs and feature requests in. Make it easy to find, and easy to navigate to. I've mentioned several things in various fandom areas (including over on regular woot, in the deals.woot.com thread), and I'm not sure any of them have been noticed (or addressed).

The feedback seems mostly one way (we tell you), and only now and then are things acknowledged (and no way of knowing that they were unless you compulsively check everywhere).

vote-for3vote-against

Let 'em in. The green boxers I know are curious to see the site- bugs and all...

vote-for7vote-against

I'm certainly all for it, and I'll go on record as saying I love all green box wooters. And a reminder: we know which of you black boxers were dissing us purples. We know where you are.

vote-for4vote-against

Too late now, they let us in! Green-boxers are gonna break this thing for sure.

vote-for1vote-against

Let enough ppl in to reduce it to slag. That could work the kinks out in a hurry! :)

vote-for5vote-against

We, the undersigned green-boxers, are here.

vote-for1vote-against

I guess I'm a green-boxer.. whatever that means?

vote-for4vote-against

Green-boxer here. Don't have any questions to ask. I figured out what it was after looking around for about 5 minutes. Now I've got my bookmarklet installed, and I'm ready to start wooting some deals!

vote-for7vote-against

FINALLY, Time to contribute nothing out of the bitterness I feel for being shunned by woot as if I am not a faithful devotee... for I am but a green box.

vote-for1vote-against

The green wooters have arrived... I must say it is pretty impressive so far!

vote-for1vote-against

@murphtronic: I second that, where here!

vote-for0vote-against

Wh at did it take to qualify as a "Greenboxer"? I believe to be a blackboxer, they had to have 100 woots.

vote-for1vote-against

so this wootie wootie woot woot site is in competition with...s l i c k d e a l s?

(do I dare speak its name?)

vote-for1vote-against

@lilladybug72: lol, looks like it! wonder if Selma is here..

vote-for3vote-against

Green box here. The rich folks have had their day. It's time for the proletariat to take the reins. Viva la revolution. >;-)

vote-for1vote-against

Is this my Beta feedback? You are making feedback a joke! I just purchased the Roxio Dazzle. Tax was added! But a nearly equal special reduction appeared on my billing statement. Ahhh...but when the final invoice appeared, the "special" reduction did not appear, and I ended up paying taxes on the purchase. I aalready pay enough taxes.I surely would like to know why, and why the shady ruse. Not what I would expect from a WOOT deal!

vote-for2vote-against

"Ready for green-box Wooters?"

Heh, I didn't know I was one till I got the beta email.

So, am I contributing to the quality of the site yet? Let me spread my greenly goodness...

vote-for1vote-against

It is so hard being Green.

Looks good so far. I think the Roxio DVD hook up was a previous Woot with no tax. The sales tax will be an interesting experience.

vote-for1vote-against

deals.woot site does not autofit to my resolution. I'm using 1024 X 768 and have to scroll back and forth. However on my other monitor using 1280 X 1024 it looks fine.

vote-for1vote-against

Green boxers are here (along with glow in the dark briefs apparently).

Question - why does clicking a username in a post bring me back to the homepage and not the user's profile or information about them?

vote-for1vote-against

Another Green box here! Hi all :)

vote-for1vote-against

It's not easy being green.

Having to have to click for more comments is annoying. Not horribly annoying just odd annoying

vote-for2vote-against

@kmeyersvt: It doesn't do that on the main site, so why here? Also check the "tabs" under the Sponsered deals window, you will see your name and the user's name that you clicked for both questions asked and deals wooted.

vote-for1vote-against

Are there other box colors and what do they mean?
and these numbers on the left. number of posts, some type of ranking, amount of money left in my pocket because all the wooting I've done?

vote-for1vote-against

@smilingjack:

"It's not easy being green.

I agree with this statment. Sponsored by the confused

vote-for1vote-against

Heh, don't forget Linus's Law. You SW developers know what I mean, but for the rest of you:

"given enough eyeballs, all bugs are shallow"

Meaning the more people you have looking at it from enough perspectives the easier it gets to figure out the bugs

vote-for2vote-against

I think I'm a brown box. What am I doing here? Maybe something to do with my registration date?

vote-for1vote-against

@fapri: I'm pretty sure Selma is a bot/script that SD runs.

vote-for2vote-against

@adjamc: and so you are (10-24 woots). Joined Dec 2005.

vote-for1vote-against

I click the "do not show this every time" ajax front door thing and it never works. I have to do this every time I visit the site. FF3.5.5.

vote-for1vote-against

deals.woot is coming along nicely. User submitted deals are nice, but more wooters to vote up items would make this easier to use (in theory).

Pack 'em in!

vote-for2vote-against

@mountainflip: More Wooters? Are you insane? We have them all, right now.

vote-for1vote-against

I agree that more wooters is good. When you have a large number of people voting the deals that float up to the top are more reliably good as opposed to a small pool of voters where it would be easier for fewer individuals to push up a deal that is less desirable/worth of the front page/masses.
