It's very pretty, and congratulations, too!

You should get the ring appraised for insurance purposes.

When's the date? Are we all invited?

vote-for15vote-against

@shrdlu: As it stands, we're having trouble scrounging enough money to invite close friends :/ Plans are still for July. Thanks!

Love it! Different, unusual & very lovely. Dare I say unorthodox? ;-)

Please don't think longer than 1 moment about how many attend your wedding...it's your special day of love and committment. Heartfelt best wishes to both of you.

I should clarify about the ring, because I don't know if I went into details about it before.
It's a lovers knot with both of our birthstones in it.

@jsimsace: Thanks!
@gmwhit: HA! I see what you did there :P

vote-for12vote-against

@abramokids: What are the birthstones? It is hard to tell in the pic.

My ring and my husband's are both of our birthstones (sapphire and amethyst). Still love them. Never was one for the solitaire diamond thing.

@bnbsouthworth: Well hers is garnet and mine is...
turns away from computer
"Hey, Light, what's my birthstone?"
"Aquamarine"

Yeah, that.

Gongrats! Beautiful ring! Best wishes to you and your fiance.

Very nice, and congrats. I like non-traditional rings.

Oh, how lovely! I adore the symbolism of your birthstones together in a lovers' knot, and it's absolutely gorgeous. Thank you for posting pictures.

If you need to save some money, I'm sure your woot family would be more than happy to contribute Bags of Crap Wedding Favors; we'll even make sure to avoid stuff from the Bacon woot-off! :)

@abramokid :i missed your original story at the time. Mazel Tov and Hamokom Yenachem...

Did you decide on going forward with the secular wedding on Light's Mother's birthday? In which section of the country do you live. I am an ordained minister and would be happy to perform a secular, non-halachik, wedding free of charge. I live in the NY/NJ area.

vote-for8vote-against

That's a beautiful ring. I love that it's different than the normal engagement ring.

And congratulations on your engagement!

vote-for6vote-against

I remember reading the original story and remembering how (as you said it) bittersweet it would have been.
Hopefully things are going well for the both of you. Planning a wedding can be very stressful.
Good luck and congratulations again.

Very pretty ring. I also went a bit different with the one I got my fiance, but only to the extent of putting sapphires in as accent stones.

I'm about.. checks calendar 10 days from my own wedding. It's a nightmare if you're trying to do it in a "cost-effective" manner. This really hit home when I answered a survey recently and the answers for "How much are you going to spend" were $0-10k, $10k-20k... Yep, we're firmly in that first bracket. Blows my mind how much some folks spend on the wedding.

FWIW, if I/we had to do it again, we would have a ceremony with just parents/gparents present and then have a reception open to friends, etc. If you have any questions, shoot 'em at me.

It's very pretty! :) Thank you for posting it.

Very pretty. Enjoy your wedding day!

@abramokids :
re-posting because I see I spelled your name incorrectly:

i missed your original story at the time. Mazel Tov and Hamokom Yenachem...

@mml666: Pssssst: Just posting in the thread sends a reply if he subscribed to it....spelling doesn't matter since it's his question.

vote-for7vote-against

Ahhhh, I fell way behind on replies. First I just want to say I'm surprised that nobody commented on the picture of a cat in the original post. That's our kitten, her name is Life. No, it has nothing to do with her mother passing away, we just thought the name would yield some interesting conversations. (EX: Life took a piss on the rug. That's Life!)

@bill7718: @okham: @thunderthighs: @sgrman05: @inkycatz: @dontwantaname: Thanks y'all!

@neuropsychosocial: Sorry I took so long to post them haha. Hey, Baconsalt is a-ok in my book!
@mml666: That's very nice of you. We still don't know whether we will be doing the secular date or not, however I may have been a bit unclear. We aren't planning a ceremony that day, just to get all the paperwork done. Still a very kind offer :D
@ki4rxm: Holy Moley! That's coming up fast. Budgeting seems pretty hard, but I'm sure we can make it work. Best of luck and congrats on your special day!

@abramokids: Set up a paypal account for the wedding -- I'll send along a wedding gift and would be thrilled to know it might fund another guest for you!

PS: I'm serious. Weird, perhaps, but serious.

Edit: The ring is lovely!

@ki4rxm: "I'm about.. checks calendar 10 days from my own wedding."

Congratulations, and remember it's really just a big party full of people who like you a lot. Don't let The Day make you feel crazy!

@magic cave: Er... Uh... I'm not quite sure how to respond to this. Seriously, I turned to Light and was like "How do I even respond to this?" I can either give you my email and thanks, or I can kindly decline... Lemme try both!

You REALLY don't need to do that. It's a very kind offer and your kind words and thoughts alone will do, however if you really feel it necessary, my paypal account is the same as my username here on woot except at AOL.com Too kind sniff

@abramokids: (I'm back from the wilds of North Carolina and seriously wishing we were still there. The weather was better there, and I don't want to go back to work tomorrow.)

Not "too kind" at all; it's a gift to myself -- it's a joy to celebrate another's marriage.

vote-for5vote-against

@magic cave: If you really feel that way, you are welcome to :P
Weather today in Boston is pretty nice. Cool and sunny. Love it :D

@magic cave: I want to PM you, but I can't seem to figure it out, so I guess I'll just say thank you very much :D
I often hear about people donating to total strangers but I never thought I'd be on the receiving end, not that we are TOTAL strangers :P Thank you again :D

@abramokids: You're welcome, but once again, let me say it was my pleasure (in the sense that it really is a pleasure).

As for the issue of how to do PM's, it's an ongoing problem: http://deals.woot.com/questions/details/4399a7ce-bf6d-43f2-b3c9-83e0e7f007a4/i-give-up-how-do-i-find-someone-on-the-woot-side-to-pm-them#15

The shortest answer: go to this thread:
http://www.woot.com/Forums/ViewPost.aspx?PostID=4776065
make a comment, save the address for the link, and then you can always go back to hunt for a deals-side wooter to see if they've left a message there. If so, you can PM them through that message.
