Pants? What you need is a Fanny Pack!

Man bag. Much better than pants.

Here's the one I use. It fits a 7 inch tablet no problem. Also has room for my phone, keys, wallet, glasses, box of mints, gum, hand sanitizer, spare change, pen, and whatever else I need. Best thing is no crap in my pockets.

Get a satchel, Indiana Jones had one. You can even put your Skittles in there.

Dockers has some, but they seem to fit too snugly...I guess it depends on the color/fit/style you're looking for.

I have a couple of different backpacks that I usually carry it in.

But here's the thing. Over the summer I took my son to DC and I had all this info about our trip and things to see on my tablet. My cargo shorts had pockets that were THIS CLOSE to the tablet fitting. I didn't want to take a backpack that day and battery-wise my Android phone wasn't going to be up for the task for a lot of GPS'ing all day. I really would have liked to have just put the tablet my pocket and go.

Lately, I've been finding that I'm using the tablet in situations where I'd like to just put it in my pocket and go, like we do with our phones. I know there has to be a pair of pants out there with a pocket big enough. If there isn't, I think this might be an opportunity for some clothing manufacturer.

Having said all that. Anybody seen my pants?????? ;p)

@phillystyle: Have you tried Old Navy? They seem to be the place to go if you need cargo pants. Also, 5.11 tactical has a number of cargo pants. Thing is, you're going to have to do some experimenting. Or find someone that uses pants to carry a tablet. Still don't know why you'd do that unless you like your tablet exposed to everything that hits your leg with only a thin covering of material but "different strokes..." I guess.

@zuiquan: You might be on to something there. Maybe I'll find that things hit my leg more than I think.

Old Navy's a good idea. I'll hit them soon to take a peek.

Oh, I AM looking for someone who uses pants to carry a tablet - on Woot! heeheehee

@phillystyle: I do have a pair of old cargo pants from old navy and I did try carrying my tablet in them for about 5 minutes, every time I sat down or brushed up against something there was a thunk so I quickly decided it'd be man bag carry only from then on.

@zuiquan: You are quite convincing. This is why I asked. Maybe someone thought of something I didn't.

I thought the second major issue after the pocket size would be whether the pants were baggy enough to allow me to sit down comfortably BUT not so baggy that the tablet wanted to fall underneath me went I went to sit down. Maybe it'll be broken before I even get to take a seat. lol

With today's tech being virtually the same for phones and tabs, wouldn't it be better to carry a phone instead?

I carry a tablet everywhere I go, even hiking, but I hate phones so do not carry one. I use a backpack to carry my tablet while hiking and shopping, but usually just carry the tab in my hand all other times.

If you are like me and hate phones, why not try an mp3 player with a 4 or 5 inch screen, or you could always use a backpack/man bag/satchel, etc...

@pyxientx: No, I love my phone.

I don't know if you read my earlier post but in the case of the vacation I was hoping to use the tablet as a GPS between landmarks and restaurants and stuff. Now at home or sitting in my car eating lunch or on the go I tend to use the tablet mostly for reading magazines. I prefer the bigger tablet screen vs. phone for that. I also use it here in the office to stream Sirius over the wi-fi and then listen on my BT headphones.

Here at work we're required to wear black pants every day. My plan would be to get a bunch of black pants with the tablet pocket and then keep my tablet in my pocket all day to listen to Sirius. Then it'll already be in my pocket when I shoot out the door for lunch. That's the vision.

@phillystyle: I did read the above. I use gps and topo maps on my tablet, but a phone would be adequate for either as you can still zoom and it is smaller than your tablet. I do understand about reading and such as I prefer my 10" tablet to my kindle for documents and reading. I don't advocate getting rid of the tablet, but carrying it in your pants would hinder movement and be uncomfortable for any length of time. This is why I suggested a phone, mp3 player or backpack. I guess I look at movement different as I think in terms of comfort and ease of maneuvering while hiking, climbing, and mountain biking.

Try Scottevest.com - their cargo pants may have enough room. All their clothes are loaded with hidden pockets, I own the Expedition Jacket and love it.

@zippy the pinhead: Now that looks interesting. I'm definitely digging that Expedition Jacket too. The pants pockets are legion bit it's hard to tell if their big enough though. I'll have to give them a call.

The Travel Boxers cracked me up. But depending on where you travel...

@phillystyle: The ScotteVest Hidden Cargo Pants 2.0 went on sale today (DOTD) for 20% off.........
BTW where in Philly? I used to live near South St./Queen Village area.......yo!

vote-for2vote-against

@zippy the pinhead: Yo Zippy! What's up?!? I'm familiar with the Zippy the Pinhead character but every time I see your user name I think of the old Zipperhead on South Street. I don't know if you remember it or not but it closed some years back. So it's interesting that you'd turn out to have a Philly connection.

Thanks for the tip. I signed up for the DOTD email and I'll probably get a pair of these today. I figure I'll need the pants eventually anyway and it'll let me see about the pocket size. But then there's practicality. Even if there's a big secret pocket, I'm not sure it's really the right pocket for me if I have to unzip my pants just to hit Pause. LOL

In West Philadelphia born and raised... (University City) ( http://shirt.woot.com/offers/my-upside-down-life ). I live up near Boston now but I drive home a lot. How about you? Are you from Philly originally? Still there?

I don't know about pants, but I got this jacket about a month ago. It's great! It has a bunch of interior pockets (including one large enough for a 7" tablet). Also, it's water resistant, so it should help keep anything in those pockets, and you too, nice and dry.

Kohl's has a sale starting tomorrow with a 30% off coupon. Deal here.

@phillystyle: I grew up in S.J., lived in Philly from 90-96, when I moved to Utah to ski for 12 years and have lived in NW MT since then, with nothing but about 20 miles of trees between me & the Canada border. I lived about 3 blocks from Zipperhead. I was back there a few years ago and much has gone away, like Philadeli and Tower Records/Books. The old Famous Deli is under new ownership thankfully. I don't miss the east coast at all. Or any city for that matter.
