Will you be one of the first to buy the new iPad 3 when it comes on the market?
Link: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2398036,00.asp If Apple sticks to its usual schedule, Cupertino will likely unveil its third-generation iPad in early 2012. But when exactly will we get our hands on the shiny new tablet?
A new report from the Economic Times, picked up by Focus Taiwan and 9to5Mac, says Apple will launch the iPad 3 on Feb. 24 in honor of Steve Jobs's birthday.

i love my iPad2 & I do rush out to grab the new iPhone everytime a new one comes out. But, I can't see THAT big of an improvement from an iPad 2 to an iPad 3 to justify spending the money.
I was thinking about it, but at this moment I'm thinking of waiting for a Windows 8 tablet later in the year.
I hope you're wrong Caver, but you never know nowadays with Apple. There wasn't much of a difference between the original iPad and the iPad 2. Apple tossed in a camera and a new processor, changed the form factor slightly and released the device as the iPad 2. That's why I am still on the original, there were enough changes to warrant an upgrade.
With as strong as the tablet market is right now Apple better plan on making a few much anticipated upgrades to the iPad 3. Most notably the absolutely stunning retina screen! I hope they have figured out a way to give us that beauty of a screen and not kill the battery life.
Not just "no", but "hell no".
+1 on the hell no.
Apple is an evil company that does everything it can to try and control the mobile market and steals technology and makes it their own in their own closed system environment. There is a fine line between how Apple operates and how Stalin ran the Soviet Union.
I have a Kindle Fire and use Windows btw. Contrary to what Apple people want you to think, Google and Microsoft are the good guys.
I just bought an iPad 2, so I hope there arn't as many updates to make me buy a brand-spankin'-new model.
Definitely not. I still don't see the point of tablets.
@auctionsaver: No, just no. Microsoft and google are in the same boat as apple. Everything is profit oriented. I guarentee you Google's stock hasn't exploded since it was created because they are the "good guys". What microsoft makes their money on, its just as closed off as apple's stuff is. Same with Google, but I will give google some leeway. They aren't completely evil corporation yet. They still do invest some money for releasing open source stuff, but all their money making stuff will be closed tighter than fort knox.
And, no, I won't be buying an over priced tablet. I still like the HP touchpad rooted with android :-)
Like everything else Apple makes, there are other options on the market that do everything Apple's does AND MORE for less money.
The ONLY thing Apple has going for it is compatibility. That's simply not enough to overcome their shortfalls, spend 3X as much money, and switch my entire life to Apple.
I enjoy my iPad2 quite a bit. I use it on an almost daily basis for work. Would it be the same story if I was using an Android OS tablet? Probably.
The only reason I went iPad is because of the size. At the time, it was the thinnest and lightest tablet available, so that's what I went with.
I am wishing that I had an Android tablet since I have so many apps thanks to the free app a day deal with the Amazon app market. (My work phone is an Android phone)
I would only get the iPad 3 if my work bought it for me.
I will upgrade. It's just a matter of when. Especially if the rumors of the iPad 3 having a Retina display are true. I'm sure I'll be able to recoup most of the cost of my iPad 2 and will be able to justify the additional expense of the iPad 3.
@coondogg97: I hate to sound like such a mac hater, because its not that I really hate the products, I just don't like they way they are marketed (perhaps because it works so well?). But I think the iPad3 will only include another set of marginal improvements. I think part of Apple's core strategy is to make as much money on making a few changes as possible...because their strategy has been successful for so long that their fanbase is largely developed into one that doesn't care what the product is; just as long as it is the new version they will drop the $$$ on it. I think Apple now banks on this. The 4S being the latest example.
That said, I'm not totally unfounded. I work for a company that works with the company that produces chips for all major computer companies. Apple and PCs both. Under the hood, these machines are the same, but somehow Apple's cost hundreds more.
@auctionsaver: Apple is an 'evil company' and yet you don't have a problem owning a Kindle, the eBook reader from a company that defended the author of a book on how to get away with pedophilia? Really??
@theracoon: They took that book off pretty quickly, though.
I think part of Apples success has something to do with them being the first ones to come to the market with the newest technology. What did Palm and Blackberry do for "smart phones" for all the years they had the market cornered? Where were the Galaxy tabs and Transformers before the iPad came to market?
I have owned a number of Apple DEVICES (never owned a Mac) over the years and up until this year all of my smartphones have been Android. There are some things I miss now that I no longer have an Android phone, but there are things I couldn't believe I settled for when I had my Droids.
Both companies do have a lot to offer. But I hear Android fans tearing Apple apart much more then Apple fans ripping on Android. And the majority of Android fans that I have talked to have never owned an Apple device. What I usually hear is "Yeah, but I have used them." Most people would agree that you cant give an honest opinion about a device until it is part of your daily routine.
No, I'm really happy with my current iPad (a 2), and it is less than a year old for me. As long as it works fine for what I want it for, there's no point of being trendy just to be trendy.
Also, let's keep the personal bashing to a minimum. A couple of folks are skirting the edge. :) (But most of you are not, so yay.)

Tell that to Microsoft after they released Vista and failed miserably. They released Windows 7 to fix their mistake and most Vista machines were easily converted. So it's not always whats under the hood that matters, it's what you do with it.
No, no. Never!
No, I'm happy with my iPhone and netbook for portability issues.
No, I'm at home most of the time and really can't justify the expense.
If money wasn't an object? I'd probably get one.
No.
@coondogg97: Well I was referring to the literal hardware, not software. Yes, Vista was epic failz. No one is arguing that.
@meh3884: For me Windows Milennium was the worst OS I ever tried to use.
Nope. I expect the iPad3 to bring down the pricing on alot of other really good android tablets. I will then buy one of those for a fraction of the cost of the iPad3....
I'll be buying one, as early as I can. I'm ready to buy an iPad 2 as it is, so I figure if there's any chance of a new one coming as soon as February, I should just wait.
If I had an iPad 2, I wouldn't be buying an iPad 3... and if I had an original iPad, I wouldn't have been bought an iPad 2.
Of course, without knowing what features the iPad 3 actually has, none of this is concrete.
I try never to be the first to buy, it's the Windows Service Pack rule of life.
Haven't sprung for a tablet of any kind yet, and I don't drink the Apple Kool Aid.
