it would be easier if you linked to them.

I'm assuming that this is what you're referring to:

http://deals.woot.com/deals/details/c3675bb4-7b0b-4ac8-a04f-ff5d98e9ce78/emergency-backup-for-iphone-ipod-ipad-free-woot-gift#9

I mean, I suppose it kinda reads like a FAQ for the deal, but those could be legitimate questions too.

I get what you're saying I'm just not so sure it's a problem.

vote-for3vote-against

Seem to be ok to me. What exactly do you find self serving?

vote-for3vote-against

annoying yes, But give him credit for responding to questions on his own deal with his own username.

vote-for6vote-against

Hrm. Yesterday, when I posted the BP shirt deal, I noticed that this deal (http://deals.woot.com/deals/details/c3675bb4-7b0b-4ac8-a04f-ff5d98e9ce78/emergency-backup-for-iphone-ipod-ipad-free-woot-gift#9) was only 9-10 minutes old, yet already had 9-10 votes (don't remember the exact numbers). Seemed fishy, so I tattled, asking staff to check for shills.

Paging @prettywootprincess?

[Edit] Wait a sec. Same product, different deal. Looks like a staffer might have nuked it yesterday. Curioser and curioser.

vote-for6vote-against

@heymo: At least I'm not the only one that thinks something is up. My guess would be that he's offering a free case for good posts to make himself look better... Judging by what I received from them it's not going to cost him anything...

It's just that everything @iphonestore seems to list goes popular. He has been shown to lie and use a shill or two in the past....

vote-for7vote-against

@heymo: @claudicina: Interesting stuff, that sounds like it's worth looking into.

Nothing wrong with being a careful/vigilant wooter

vote-for7vote-against

@heymo: Now the voting is interesting. And I think there have been issues with that particular vendor and his use of sockpuppet accounts to get his deals to to popular you already paged princess but @jumbowoot might want to look into that too.

vote-for12vote-against

On it. Keep up the good work on making sure we try to keep everyone honest.

Also keep tattling, if you have a bad experience with a merchant please TATTLE, there are some in this thread that know for a FACT that I and the rest of the deals team will help you out.

vote-for6vote-against

@prettywootprincess: That's the truth. ;) Thanks for the good work!

vote-for6vote-against

@claudicina: I agree, all but FOUR of his deals have gone popular. With as sick as the community seems to get about repeat-appearing deal posts (see the comments in http://deals.woot.com/deals/details/da2c7d6c-fc97-4a8d-8970-7a55d5ea72e4/magnetic-tool-wrist-band), it's seems odd that they'd gush over iPhone deal after iPhone deal.

I've always thought something was fishy about @iphonestore, but I never dug into it.

vote-for2vote-against

@claudicina: I didn't mean to poo poo your idea. It would have been really funky if the people asking questions had accounts that had just opened up recently and their questions were too 'perky' sounding.

vote-for5vote-against

@prettywootprincess: I wasn't even in this thread, and I still know it. I suppose the vendors are always going to run the gamut from keepers, to people who just think that you (i.e. Deals STaff) will put up with anything. We just need to clone you, so that we'd have someone as watchful and fast for the middle of the night and weekend moments.

vote-for6vote-against

@hobbit: I didn't think you were poo-pooing anything. :) It's always good to have a devil's advocate, even if it wasn't intended that way.

I'm honestly not paranoid by nature, but this guys "deals" just rub me the wrong way.

vote-for2vote-against

@claudicina: that is okay like princess said it is good we are watching. You watch him, I watch for the counterfeiters and I have my good buddy poolcenter too ;) He hasn't posted in a while though.

vote-for6vote-against

@hobbit: On the subject of sockpuppets, but in this case one who uses her (its?) powers for good, have you noticed that @theflounder is now the top commenter?

vote-for2vote-against

@heymo: I did, you know that is because folks voted for her comments, which is pretty cool really.

vote-for4vote-against

@heymo: I noticed that this morning. I find it hysterically funny, but also point out that @theflounder hasn't made many comments, which makes it far easier to rise to the top on that. Top Commenters uses some pretty simple math. Number of comments/number of total votes per comment == Top Commenter status. I could take it right down just by making comments on old deals/questions out of sight of regular folk. I considered doing just that when it showed up on that list, but then decided it was funny, and let it be.

@hobbit: I have to be truthful. I do not consider the account to be a "her" or in fact to be human. It's just a way to make goofy comments without being taken too seriously. Weird, yes?

vote-for4vote-against

@hobbit: Actually, you've made me realize that the flounder account is another way in which I can slowly remove myself from the top of the leaderboard (or even from appearing there at all). It's innocuous, it's innocent, pretty much everyone knows it's me. I may go make some random common on the forums with that account, pointing out the fact, so that anyone who hits the members link to check it out will see that comment.

Thanks for making me think that one through. It's almost warm enough to go outside and throw dirt around. :-D

vote-for2vote-against

To be frank I appreciated the @iphonestore user answering my questions. I have looked for a product like that (albeit lightly, but I have looked) for a while and it was nice to see it delivered on my favorite impulse purchase spot.

and I am not sure if it was being alluded to that some of the conversation contributors on the post were fake accounts or not, but I can assure you I am no fake user.

I think if someone, especially a vendor, posts a deal here they should be checking to answer questions. That is just good customer service. Just my $0.02

vote-for5vote-against

@sumduud: Yeah, that's not as suspect as the thing about all of the items going popular and getting quick votes.

vote-for4vote-against

@sumduud: You'll forgive me if I don't buy it. Seems a little too convenient to me. We have other vendors that answer questions, and it's nothing like the fluff that you posted today. Or that gets posted repeatedly on @iphonestore "deals." Just my $0.02.

vote-for1vote-against

@claudicina: sumduud did post elsewhere besides the iphonestore deal, so that question I would be less suspect of. I am generally less suspicious of a person who has been a member for a long while asking questions anyway, it is folks who are brand new (today or even since deals started) that post super awesome reviews and questions.

vote-for2vote-against

@claudicina: Yeah umm go check out my profile over at woot.. a member since 07 with over 125 woots and lots of comments... sounds fake to me, but believe what you want.

I can't say anything else about the user or the popularity of their deals, but imo I had questions about the item as the web site wasn't extremely clear, saw the user had answered some questions prior so I asked and got an answer. sounds like good customer service to me. Outside of this occurence I got nothing about any of this.

vote-for8vote-against

@sumduud: I didn't say you were fake. I just said your comments sounded suspicious. If you had been following the "drama" surrounding that place... At any rate, I meant no disrespect...

Just be careful what you buy from them. His "customer service" as you call it, stops with the posting of the deal. Not to mention that almost everything they sell is a cheap knock off, and not worth the "low" prices they are listed at. Caveat Emptor.

vote-for1vote-against

IMO, this vendor is just fine and I would order from again. I am not sure what the OP or others have against him or what I am missing, nor do I care much. I expect (blindly hope) it is active community members tryng to keep everyone straight and policing users they suspect of abusing the system. To that I say report it and let the woot! staff do thier thing. I'm a unique user not affiliated with @iPhonestore at all, that buys too much crap online. My wife might just hate woot! from the amount of things I order.

My story is this: Saw a deal, asked questions about it, got answers, ordered it, fast shipping, tested item, works great and quality is as good as a device 2-3x as expensive from radio shack. I'd buy from this store again in a second!

@claudicina: Anything on the net is a buyer beware situation. Everything about this experience was positive for me, I can't say anything about what others experienced. I appreciate the heads up, but this one worked out well for me.
