What should I do with a mini pc?
I have had our old broken laptop laying around for a while and I figured it was time to do something with it. The motherboard went so I scavenged the hard drive, ram, and dvd drive out of it.
I then found this Shuttle Intel Atom D510 (1.66GHz, dual-core) Intel NM10 Next-Generation NVIDIA ION Graphics HDMI Barebone XS35GT
for $115 and it seems like a great cheap solution to put those parts to good use. The only problem that I have is that I don't know what to do with the thing once it's built. My wife and I already have desktop computers and we have a computer hooked up to the tv (HTPC).
Do you have any fun ideas for this?

what to do with a mini pc? feed it well and it might grow into a full sized pc.
It's adorable! Even if I had no clue what to do with it, I'd build one because it's cute! Cute is always good.
A kids or an emergency backup pc? That's about it really for me.
You could do a seed box or a NAS. But that is putting too much money into it, when there are specific devices just for that, for about the same price.
pimp your ride by installing that as a headrest monitor on the back of the driver's seat
they see my rollin'
they hatin'
Does your TV have VGA in? I hooked an old laptop to my TV, hooked this remote to it, installed vlc on it, it plays all the videos on my PC. I changed the resolution to 1920×1080 and mounted it to the back of the TV. (test playback before you buy the remote)

SFF PCs make great home web servers. I have an old Compaq P4 doing that at my house, only uses ~40W and handles the meager demand of my website without a problem. Also functions as a gateway to my stuff at home for when I need stuff and I'm not there.
Of course, if you want to stream live video off your website or something on that order, it probably won't do it. But if you're serving simple text pages and some files it will more than fit the bill.
