Anyone else think it would be easier to navigate deals if a category/index system was implemented?
I think having categories to differentiate deal types would be more effective than using the tags alone, and it would help increase traffic. I'm not saying the system is horribly flawed or anything, I just think categories would help users to navigate the site easier and deal hunters to find what they're looking for easier, overall making the site a bit more user friendly.
I had some ideas for categories, but would love to hear from other users what they think about the idea.
Category ideas:
Electronics
Apparel
Housewares
Food/Edibles
Entertainment
Coupons
Healthcare

Okay so this exact same thing was asked previously and didn't get enough attention. I feel like an idiot for not checking for similar questions. Apparently the Advanced search feature does this already and I'm just failing to fully utilize the search function.
I like the tags method.
Tags provide the categorization function without having to click on a particular tab in order to see deals. I really like being able to see the unfiltered flood of deals as the normal view.
When I'm searching for something specific it is really easy using advanced search to use tags to narrow down the results to just what I'm after.
What is it about categories that you think would increase traffic? I don't get that, but then again, I'm a simpleton.
@durkzilla: Just having an inherently easier categorical navigation I think would be enticing to new users and seasoned BTs alike. I see now it's already in place, I just was not delving into the inner search working as much as I should have. Already tattled on myself for the mistake.
@mikeymet: Well, to your point, the tags system is definitely not intuitive, and the Advanced Search function is easily overlooked.
Hopefully this thread will help newcomers find their way to the Advanced Search page!
The advanced search tool is nice, but I will say that woot! is testing a great way to browse deals by category. Certain users already have access to the beta test of it. I REALLY enjoy it and use it instead of the current list format. I hope it is public in the near future.
@caver2130: Welcomed news, truly. Wish I was aware before opening my trap.
If I'm actually looking for a particular item, the search works for me. Otherwise, I really wouldn't like to see things divided into categories. I like seeing what folks post as deals as a whole.
