My birthday is two days before Christmas, so if I don't buy myself a birthday gift I often don't get one. I generally save up and buy something really special to call my birthday gift. I have bought my house, my car, and many higher end electronics in December and called them my Birthday presents to myself.

Yep, the hubby usually forgets my birthday so I always make sure to yet something extra special for myself. Usually a video game :)

I celebrate my own "half-birthday." It was a tradition in my family growing up (my parents just recognized it with something small such as candy, nothing extravagant) that my husband absolutely REFUSES to continue. So I treat myself.

why wait? if you don't treat yourself as special and worthy of having what you want, who will? don't go in debt over it, but be good to yourself. anytime i see something that i like, my husband says "just get it". sometimes i will make a pile of some of it and say "hey, look what you got me for my holiday", or let him pick thru and hide stuff until my next occasion.

I bit the bullet and bought an amazing Raku ceramic Buddha mask. Will be a nice addition to my mask collection.

@mdiltz01: Worry not, my dear. The year I turned 30. Mick Jagger said he hoped/planned/was sure he would be dead! That just made my year, because it was quoted over and over and over again (and that was 45 years ago). You can trust me, there is a lot of life going on after 30!

I don't hesitate to buy myself whatever strikes my fancy - don't need an occasion!
