I heard rumors about it on TWiG recently. I'm excited, but of course I am a google nerd.

According to the article cited, nothing has actually been announced as yet.
An unnamed executive from Asustek, not Google, said that they would be soon be releasing a tablet priced to compete with the Kindle Fire. The executive declined to give actual details on price, specifications, or launch timetable.
And Google declined to comment. Ah, our good friends rumour and speculation have come for a visit yet again.
While it is highly expected that a Google branded tablet is coming down the pipe, it's certainly nothing more than vapourware right now.
Google I/O conference kicks off today, so maybe the vapour will solidify sooner than later?
Let's hope that if/when something is released, it will be, like Tony the TIger would say, "Grrrrrrrrr-reat!"

It's hard to get excited about yet another tablet.

Newsless. This is the same rumor and news that has been going on forever. SO, I guess the answer to the actual question is YES....often.

@morriea: This one seems more serious. It will probably be announced today officially. Google did buy Motorola so they do own a hardware company now.

Here's the Bloomberg report (video): http://www.bloomberg.com/video/google-s-versus-apple-a-199-tablet-jeGsVarsTHWJi8gBxSWIuA.html

After looking over the specs, it's for a 7" model and that's a show-stopper for me. I'd rather pay more for a larger screen.

it would be bigger news if google came out with a hardware item that did NOT run android.

@cengland0: It is probable that the tablet will be Asus, not Motorola, running the Nvidia quad core that is in the Prime and Pad 300.

NOW it is official :)

@curtise: Ha, ha, to all those skeptics out there.

Too bad I can't get a 10" version or I'd be all over this right now even if it costs 50% more. At least this one will have Android 4.1 "Jelly Bean" when it goes out the door.

@cengland0: Hardly a skeptic. It just wasn't news. It has been known that was the probable outcome... I even let you know the maker (Asus, not Motorola) in an earlier post.

I have a fire and their are alot of things I hate about it that they improved on but I feel like they just came out with a me too product rather than something innovative which is what I really expected from them
