The only thing my local had when I went the other day was a bunch of "no longer available" stickers covering up the angus burgers. Unfortunately I got used to eating actually good McDonald's over in Germany/Belgium/The Netherlands. So when I went to my local the other day it was a test run to see if they matched up. They did not. So I probably won't be trying the new quarter pounders. Maybe if I wasn't aware of how good McDonald's actually can be it'd be OK.

@zuiquan: I feel you. The quality varies even between the multiple McD locations here. Luckily, we live near the "good" one. Why was Germany so good?

Any kind of pickled cucumber can be crinkle cut, I would imagine McD's is sticking with the mainstream dill and just cutting them differently to make it seem new. Bread and butter pickles, while sold in thick and crinkle cuts, are properly sliced super-thin and canned with lots of onions. They are my favorite pickle. If you like B&B pickles, try Famous Dave's pickles. They are basically bread and butter pickles with spicy seasonings added.

@bsmith1: I'm not sure but I think their standards are a bit higher. I know the food is a bit more expensive, too. Also, the recipes are slightly different. The McChicken in Germany is more of an actual sandwich instead of some cheap castoff and the mayo is much better. Now, not everything actually tasted better (there's some strange Asian and African Fusion sandwiches that weren't all that great flavor-wise) but they were executed better. You could tell if you put the German sandwich next to the American equivalent the German would win hands down. Also, it's the closest I've seen food looking like it looks on the menu board, burgers weren't all smashed and jank-looking.

"Welcome to Good Burger, home of the Good Burger, can I take your order?"

@moondrake: I made some potato salad the other day and didn't have any relish so I chopped up some of those Famous Dave's and threw them in. Everyone that had it was like, "What's up with the hotness?" And I was all, "Because of AWESOME!" And everyone was happy.

@zuiquan: I was eating miscellaneous leftovers from Sunday's cookout last night, and had a bowl of commercial potato salad. Found it too bland, threw some quartered FD pickles in along with a couple of spoonfuls of pickle juice and that potato salad was rockin'.

The Bacon Habanero Ranch is very good. Had that today. Here is the review online that convinced me to give it a try (with pictures):

@omnichad: I like how the review talks about the heat and how there does seem to be the trend of moving from jalapeno to habanero. Fun fact: I once ate a whole habanero pepper (seeds and all) for $10.
We have a burger joint in town that puts jalapeno chunks in the burger patty before grilling. Yumtastic. Love me some heat.

I pictured a group of people with their mouths full of tater salad having that conversation. LOL

@xarous: Aw, come on you wuss. One's arteries shouldn't be too soft anyway.

Seriously? 280 calories just from fat? Can I get a tall glass of sludge from the french fry machine to wash that thing down?

vote-for4vote-against

@xarous: Sodium's up somewhere in the Oort cloud, too.

Maybe I will sometime in the future, but for now I'm still wishing they'd get on the buffalo chicken band wagon and come up with a grilled buffalo wrap. Yeah, I know they have a 'spicy' version of a chicken sandwich, but I'm a dude in the mood for buffalo.

Same meat as the 1/3 lb burger, smaller patty, some different toppings= the shrink ray attacks again

Could it be that the reason McD's is better in Germany is beer is on the menu ?

vote-for3vote-against

@bsmith1 - You would NEVER see anything close to that picture come out of ANY McDonalds around here, LOL

vote-for3vote-against

@ceagee: Yeah, you really don't see that very much any more. In fact, I didn't see beer in any of the restaurants I went to. I know that a few still do it though. They've got Coke Zero now. And bubble tea at the McCafe locations.

vote-for3vote-against

@zuiquan: Well that's a drag. What is the point in going to McD's in Germany, if not to say, "I drank beer in McD's" ?

vote-for2vote-against

@ceagee: Yeah, I refused to go to McDonald's for the first year and a half that I was there, just because why would I go someplace that I can go to in America. But I was saddened that I had waited so long because it really is much better than what we've got here.

@mistamoose: It's new bacon - a little thicker and a better flavor. Give it a try!

vote-for2vote-against

As long as the quality of flavor is the same as the regular QP, I see no issue with trying it.

No I have not done so yet...this is the first I am hearing of new QP's to try. Sounds almost like a burger my coworker ordered at RedRobin...hmmmm. Is McD's trying to get some of RedRobin's eaters in their doors?

PS- @bsmith1: I totally get what you mean, maybe you can take a pic of the one you actually receive and photo shop it "side by side" with the above photo? Now THAT would be something to see.

@green2red:
You can't even tell which is which! :)

I should mention that I got this from the drive-thru. I didn't take the pic right away, so it had some time to cool off. I think that's why it wasn't so juicy and the cheese wasn't as melty. Also, I didn't have professional lighting rigs and whatnot for the photo. Further, I didn't stage (or fluff) the burger before I took the pic. This is what it looked like straight outta the box. It was yummy.
