Did you notice it was winter solstice today? Will you celebrate in any way?
It is the shortest day of the year, and some places like the Arctic Circle will have 24 hours of darkness.
For us, it is traditional to toss a few yuzu citrus fruits in the bath to help ward off winter illnesses. (I guess being close to the Vitamin C was thought to be as good as eating something containing it.)
Anything exciting happening for your solstice?
@shrdlu: Thank you! I'll eat another piece of cake in your honor! (Yes, I'll take any excuse...)
I've spent it cleaning and baking so far. Later I'll probably make a candle or two to burn tonight.
Shows how little I pay attention to things. I thought it was yesterday. Nope.

I love celebrating, and am happy to celebrate Yule with the rest of you. Nice to know I didn't miss it. ;-}
Happy Birthday @pamfenway!
Happy Birthday tomorrow @moondrake!
@dmaz, even in Shadong, China. It's one of those things that's independent of the time zones. This means you can celebrate along with the rest of us. :-D
Joyous Noel to the lot of you. Time for breakfast (I'm running late, yes).
it's 65 degrees today near Philly, Happy Winter!?!
wtf is a yuzu fruit and why wasn't it in mario sunshine?
sitting by the fire writing Christmas cards - at last. I have certainly noticed it - the sun is so low in the sky these days you need sunglasses to step out the door.
I think I'll sit outside and have a fire, maybe have a nice winter beer.
@kp1111: I think you're supposed to do that on the equinox
Trying to balance an egg on it's end.
Yes, I am. I take a small cutting from my holly tree in the yard & put it over my kitchen doorway. Good health & happiness for all who pass under, don'tcha know. It's also my b'day, so there's that too. :)
Only celebrating it with the thought that I'll have more sunlight every day after this. Sun sets today at 4:42 here. When I come back to work on the 3rd, I'll already have 8 minutes more sunlight in my day.
I am celebrating by talking a half-day at work and finishing up my Holiday shopping.
Thanks for mentioning it. I knew it was hereabouts. Tomorrow is my birthday, so I can celebrate the sun's rebirth along with my own birth.
Not in Shandong China, it ain't!
