first the easy one - just had a discussion to increase awareness of the Deja Vu, especially on questions.. not sure where it'll come in on development priorities.

on the other more difficult question of compatibility with older platforms, I don't have exact awareness of development scope/awareness. I do know that style of wide lightbox popup doesn't work so well on some platforms (iphone safari for instance) but I don't know if the site itself will work very good on many of those platforms either. I would definitely recommend change on the welcome page if it's meaningful to let people in smoother who could still use the site. Other than that, we're going to need to really dive into mobile functionality at some point and I'd expect that's a good time to tackle alternate width.

@snapster: As long as you're thinking about things, here's another suggestion (think about this one, no need to reply right away).

Please consider restricting deal posting to those who've purchased at least ONE thing on one of the regular woot sites. I'm seeing more and more spam and spam looking things over on Fresh, where the poster has a zero score, and is someone who appears not to be staff. I have looked at the user tabs for several of these, and they either have multiple zero rated deals, or have nothing. They haven't voted for other things, or provided commentary on anything.

Okay, off to breakfast...

FWIW, the pages are too wide for my netbook. I'm savvy enough to zoom out, but I don't expect most users - even "powerusers" - to know how to do this. Plus, it doesn't look so hot when zoomed out. Defects here and there, but just generally too small.

First comment after much visitation: I, too, find the wide screen unfriendly on a normal desktop monitor (2-yr old HP). Worst: the leaderboard, floating off the left of the page unable to be dragged; at least the rest of the stuff is usually scrollable. This is using Firefox 2.

@unixrab: Hahahahahaha!!! OMFG! That really hurt. Yeah, like your saying it here will make him change his mind, after all of our complaining over on regular woot had no effect. Still, you are pretty fuuny for me.

@shrdlu: ;) Thanks. And thanks for keeping the epic-wide-faith. :)

I feel like a dork for asking, but where on the page does the "Deja Vu" pop up? I haven't run across it yet, or maybe I have and just not noticed it?

@LaVikinga: You haven't seen the Deja Vu because you haven't posted a question, or a deal. It shows up when you're posting something new, so that you can see when something you're about to do has been done before. I wish more posters would look.

Yes, I know that LaViKinga has not posted questions or deals because I clicked on her name first to verify it. This is to forestall the inevitable comment.

@shrdlu: Ok, that makes sense. No, I haven't posted a new question or deal. I've only asked questions during a reply. I'm going to go read through ALL the "Mumbo Jumbo." I'm sure it'll answer a few other things too.
