How would you suggest I get more likes on facebook?
So I was laid off awhile back and I have been looking for a job non-stop for the last 6 months, I finally decided to start up my own company doing power washing in Houston. I have been power washing on/off for the last 8 years but I really want to take it somewhere this time. I'm sick of working for the man and I love doing it. How would you suggest me getting more likes on facebook and thus getting more business? I would really appreciate any advice, also if you want to like me check me out @ Powerwashcypress also I have a really crappy website www.powerwashcypress.com
Offer to do a few small jobs for free, so long as they like and leave good comments for you on FB.
This should help and hopefully if you do a good enough job people will recommend you and spread through word of mouth.
Sites not bad, very clean for what it is.
If I needed some powerwashing, I'd hit you up as I too am in Houston. But no need. Sorry.
Beyond friends/family/business and asking them to share the page, try FB advertising. I set it up once for a friend's page I used to manage, and you can get a good range of broad/ specific targeting.
Another possibility is small contests. For instance, post something that says "Everyone comment on this post! I'll randomly select someone who posts by [date] to get a free washing/ gift card!"
Something I used to do (before FB had pages) was referral contests...but I imagine that would be be a lot harder to track/ prove these days. Still, you can also do something like that. "Everyone invite all your friends! Once I hit [x number] I'll give away so many gift cards!"
People love free stuff. You do a couple jobs for free, but you have the potential to really expand.
Do you have Groupon out there? You could offer a deal and probably drum up quite a bit of new business; after you've impressed them with your good work, ask them to leave a like for you on fb.
@susan11125: I tried to contact Groupon and they didn’t want to work with me, they like bigger companies which kinda sucks but I figure if I can just start getting more referrals and build this website and my facebook page I might turn this into something really cool.
I don't necessarily think there is a correlation between FB likes and increased sales. A local service company like yourself would get better traffic from some good Yelp reviews. Offer an incentive to customers for giving you a review.
Some other ideas (which you may have already done), make sure you add yourself to Google maps and create a Google AdWords account and they will bury you in free $100 AdWords coupons.
I also recommend some SEO work on your site. You home page is just named Home Page so you are losing a valuable opportunity for keywords. This is the first place spiders search for keywords and folks don't do web searches for "home page". Try some Google searches as if you were a potential customer. What keywords do you use to search and who comes up in the first page of Google when you search for those keywords?
Craigslist is another free spot for local advertising.
Good luck!!
@ohcheri: yeah I'm not the best with the whole computer thing, I'm trying to learn how to set it up but I would almost rather pay someone to set all that up for me. As far as facebook I really want to get to a point where I can have alot of likes so I can offer discounts and have a referral program all set up
@jseureau: It seems like whoever set up your website should be able to at least change the name of the home page, that's really the most important spot for spider food:)
If you have your heart set on Facebook as your method of increasing sales then targeted ads are the quickest way to get "fans". Offer a 10% discount for likes and be sure you're using geographic targeting. Same thing if you decide to try Google ads.
Again, think like a customer...are they going to look for power washing on Facebook or are they going to do an Internet search? This would be a really good question to ask your previous customers (if you don't already know), how did you find me?
The before and after shots on your site are great, btw, really nice work!
offer a discount for customers who like you on FB. 5-10% maybe.
I know you said Groupon wasn't going to work with you, but have you contacted Living Social? I know they operate in Houston (just checked). In my area, they seem to work with small businesses like car washes, hair/tanning salons, local dance studios, etc.
As someone who has helped my company's fan page grow from 16,000 likes to 32,000+ in less than a year, I can tell you @thedogma offered some great suggestions.
We spend about $30 a day on FB ads. It's a very small amount of money compared to what other companies spend, but it has gotten us a lot of exposure and new fans.
Contests have been very successful, especially voting contests or re-posting/sharing contests because our existing fans do the work for us by sharing our page with their network.
We also promote our fan page on our website, blog and Twitter account and emphasize that we hold special contests and offer exclusive deals and discounts to our FB fans only.
Good luck!
@thewronggrape: well I got 10 likes now lol you should help me get to 600!
I'm surprised about your experience with Groupon. They "do" small, local businesses here all the time.
FB ads work great. You can select the amount of days that you want the ad to run and the dollar amount per day. You can try it out for just one day and say 5.00 and see if that works. That is what I did and in that one day I had over 30 likes.
