I'm going to take a different tack. I live in the country, away from any city restrictions. We always have piles of wood from fallen trees, branches from trimming all the other vegetation. This is the time of year we have bonfires in the evening. Cold air on our backs but the side facing the fire is toasty warm.

Every fall we have these cookouts over the fire, with red hot sausages, bratwurst and thick cut pork chops. We have a selection of good beers. The food is always incredible. Maybe it is the environment and ambiance.

In any case, my favorite fall food(s) has/have to be sausages, hot dogs and pork chops roasted over the coals of a bonfire, washed down with a great beer.

Just waiting on the first cold snap to make a batch of chili.

Well, it looks like apples, especially baked (perhaps with a touch of cinnamon, yummy) and apple cider; chili or chowder; and any and everything pumpkin are among everyone favorites.

Pumpkin everything! Slow roasted potatoes and onions as well. Thick soups and stews. Yum!

I was planning on providing an answer until I read @goldenthorn's; right on the money. When the weather turns cool/cold, nothing says wicked good like chowdah or stew!

Chili, Hot Mulled Apple Cider & Hot Apple Pie w/ a slice of sharp cheese!

Green Chile! Enchiladas, burritos and pie! Oh my! And don't forget green chile cheeseburgers!

Green chile is a favorite year-round, but in the fall the smell of chiles roasting fills the air and sets one's mouth to drooling in anticipation!

pizza. It's never a question of pizza, pizza is always the answer.

I'm with the apple cider crowd.

What ARE your favorite fall foodS?

I love real apple cider, not the pasteurized kind or the stuff that's really just apple juice, but real, refrigeration required cider. Mmmm.... And fresh apples. I don't have anywhere to pick them around here, but I try to get my parents to buy some at the orchard near them when they go to visit...and then I sneak some home on my backpack. I think they know about it, but it's still a fun game. :)

I don't know if it would be considered fall food but when the temps start to get cooler I love a big crock pot full of homemade Taco Soup with Chicken Enchilada soup being a close 2nd

Apples, I pick my own at the orchard, so I know they're fresh. Home-made apple pie is just another excuse for ice cream. :) I have to go with pumpkin pie too, one of my favorites. I also tend to make spicier foods like chili when the weather cools off.

Chowdahs, chilis, and carbonnade (a la flamande only!! ...well, wallonne, to be partisan about it)! I'm big into hearty, stew-y, liquid-y foods (properly sopped up with fresh breads and/or frites) once it gets cold and damp. Tomorrow, I'm making Ina Garten's lobster corn chowder (http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/lobster-corn-chowder-recipe/index.html). So good! Just got home from food shopping for it, actually.
