Do you want to see some woot developers shave their heads and raise money for cancer research?
Myself and at least one other developer will be shaving our heads next week in support of children's cancer research through St. Baldricks Foundation. More important than our hair removal, we are also trying to raise money for St. Baldricks which will go directly to cancer research. I promise there will be before and after pictures.

Most excellent.
They may have been a bit under the influence at the time, but several of the other developers have agreed to also shave their heads if we hit the $4000 goal. Not all of them, however. So, Deals, help us convince them too?
Go Woot!
Yes, but you must get Wootbot to join you.
Under the influence counts.
In the words of John Gotti, "Never say anything you don't want to hear played back."
@wnyx585am I'm not interested in putting @wootbot in the same room as a razor blade.
@defragmeout If we reach our goal I will make sure they hold up their end of the bargain.
A very worth cause indeed. What some people may not realize is that there are pediatric cancers that silently and slowly grow and are diagnosed in the 20's and 30's. My son-in-law has Stage 4 Liver/Lung Cancer - diagnosed at 27, and my daughter's best friend has just been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor at 35. Both of these cancer patients have a pediatric cancer but had no symptoms until later in life. I will be happy to make a donation.
@klozitshoper: As to the brain tumor, please have your daughter's friend contact The Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. They are making amazing strides in inoperable brain tumors, especially when using the Gamma Knife.
http://www.mayoclinic.org/patientinfo/appointments.html <---This will help direct them to the appropriate clinic, plus there are contact numbers.
Don't throw away the hair.
If you are planning on shaving your head and have long hair, please consider donating it to Wigs For Kids or a similar organization. You can help out two charities at once!
Great cause. Good luck. Don't forget to use an aftershave lotion or something of the sort afterward.
@lavikinga: She reached out to multiple sources and chose Memorial Sloan Kettering. It is a pontine glioma and is not operable according to an awful lot of cancer centers and hospitals all over the world. She is getting both radiaton and chemo - and she has a pediatric oncologist who felt that both methods were warranted because they were not certain if there are elements to the tumor that could be an adult variety in some places.
For my son-in-laws fibrolamellor variety there is no drug. He was on a trial which caused a stroke. Fortunately, he recovered from that. He is receiving chemo to try to keep the liver and lung tumors from more growth.
It has not been 100% successful, but he was given three months to live four years ago!
Cancer sucks. And that's not a word I like to use. But it describes my feelings about it. I've had too many friends who have lost the battle. And I've had too many more friends who have suffered horribly but have won. I'm in.
@gt0163c: I concur.
My feelings about cancer are not suitable to post here.
My mother died of stage four glioblastoma multiforme shortly after my eighteenth birthday. :(
@klozitshoper: Again, PLEASE have her contact someone at Mayo about the Gamma Knife. The success rate with her type of glioma is pretty damned worth investigating.
How soon will we know how many others are going to participate? I kinda of want to split my donation between all of those participating.
@theoneill555 I believe it will be as soon as we reach the goal, whenever that is. Unfortunately that could be very last minute. We aren't being super competitive about who can raise the most under their name. For us its more of a team effort. You should be able to make a donation in the team name, and not under any individual.
@csunwold: Thanks for the suggestion.
@lavikinga: I certainly will. I did not mean to imply that I would not pass this along. It would be a true blessing if it were to be something that she could utilize. What worries me is that she was told once she underwent radiation/chemo, surgery would be out of the question. I really do not understand that.
@csunwold: My donation confirmation email shows Team Woot T-8296. COME ON EVERYONE STEP UP! I personally do not care if people shave their heads or not - the cause is worthy. Is @girlwootbot participating in the hairshaving?
So much of the time posts and comments thereon are "mememememe" - here is a chance to do good for the Team Woot
@klozitshoper: Your name was on the woot team donor list 10 mins ago
@theoneill555: Goodness, that was fast. Thanks.
@klozitshoper: I cannot participate because @slydon is out to get me and he will not stop at the hair!
And the only hair @wootbot has is stuck in his exhaust grill. After the developers shave their heads he will need a thorough cleaning.
The Woot offices are about to get messy and hairy!
Oh I understand, I truly do. You must avoid @Slydon if he is a menace to you and your loved one. I was thinking of him (wootbot) today when I read that his favorite store is going to be scaling back big time. Perhaps he will have more time for you, my dear.
@girlwootbot: wootbot's first name is Cletus? It's no wonder he just uses his last name.
In for $20 (better late than never?) Sorry can't do more, waiting for that tax return :-) positive thoughts your way.
Genetics has already taken most of my hair, but I did donate money to the cause.
@csunwold: Any idea if there are any processing fees or anything like that?
Mostly I'm just wondering if I'll be doing more harm than good if I start going at people with the "What's $1 dollar?" angle heh
Dropped a fiver. Best I can do while unemployed. Good luck hitting that goal!
I'm so happy that Woot is doing this! I am not only a cancer survivor (3 years from Renal Cell Cancer) but, I have shaved my head six years for St. Baldrick's Foundation (yes, well before my diagnosis!)
Go Woot Developers! You all rock, thank you for raising money for cancer research!
Done. Good luck!
Donated.
I'm one of the devs on the team that agreed to do it only if we hit our goal. Don't stop at this page pass it on to your friends and family!
I shaved my head (and legs) a few weeks ago for St. Baldrick's. I also emailed Woot asking if they would donate to my cause. No response, and no donation.
Just sayin'.
UPDATE: We've managed to upload "before" photos now -- took a little while to clean up all the Screaming Woot Monkeys that were strewn about the office.
@kmeltzer: Oh! So sorry! Word never reached the ranks of the developer farm. We totally would've helped out!
And a photo album appears:

I'm shaving after all this year. http://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/mypage/558590/2012
I have no donations at this time, so if anyone could donate, please do so! Make me bald on my 37th birthday!
