Only with shoes. I've had 3 pair of the same style Timberland boot spanning 20 years, and when my sandals finally gave out last year, I looked for (and found) the same ones after going to every shoe store in town.

I dunno why, but I have the hardest time with pants, I would end up buying new slacks every 3-4 months, I bought some uniform pants from the local police supply store, for a Halloween costume and ended up wearing them to work by accident and realized, no one could tell they were "uniform" pants I started to wear them all the time to work, and found the first pair lasted over a year, so I went back and bought 5 pairs, those lasted for about 2 years, so I went back and bought 7 more. I have regular stuff for non work things, but at 20$ a pair, they are excellent work pants, and take alot of abuse

It's a bit harder for women, things disappear, never to be seen again. Once, when I found a pair of shoes I really liked, I bought a second pair, against that eventuality. I always say I am going to, and never do, but this time I did it. It turns out they were sewn slightly differently, and after wearing them a day, I had blisters the size of Montana. Needless to say, I never did that again. So, my answer is, I do, when I can find them.

No but because I shop at target half the time I really wish I would buy two or three of something I really like once I know I love it. I have a hat that's destroyed by dogs that I would love to have (but can't find anywhere nor can I find anything similar to it) and I had a Western-esque belt that was dark blood-red with Buffalo Skull and cross bones along the outside. I'd love to find that belt again.

@rprebel: Wow how often do you wear those boots that they lasted 20 years!?

There are a few things I wish I could buy more of (especially this one Old Navy jacket that wore out and they don't make anymore - but you can't expect the same clothes to stay forever). I have bought 3 or 4 of the same pair of shoes before though because I liked them a lot. I also have bought multiple pairs of my sandals but I don't think Adidas will ever stop making those :)

yes for socks and underwear, and once for shoes

@csl312: What I meant was that over the past 20 years, I have always had a pair of those boots. I bought one pair around 20 years ago, then another about 6-7 years after that, and again around 2004. Three pair over the past 20 years.

I also buy the same shoes again and again. I've owned several pairs of Skechers Keystone sneakers and Red Wing 3507 boots. I recommend both.

Shirts - I definitely get backups of my favorites. Which explains my Animaniacs collection. My Woot shirt collection is still smaller.

I had a pair of saucony jazz once. They were great. I left them in a hotel room and never replaced them. I might get some the next time I get some shoes

Sometimes, but only for specific things.

I do it with jeans and sneakers. At one point I had four pairs of Prowalkers in various states of decay (right now, only two).

found a pair of tony hawk hightops at kohls on clearance about 18 months ago, and after a few days realized they were a perfect fit and really comfortable, so I went back and got two more pairs for when they wore out. I thi nk I only paid about $10 per pair after coupons. Clearance price was really cheap, around $20, and I had a crapload of $10-off-$20 coupons.

When I find a pair of jeans I really like (Usually takes a few weeks to really break them in and see how much they shrink), I'll go back and see if I can find one or two more.

I'll try to get at least one extra if I find a baseball cap I really like, too. I've got a big head, so a lot of caps don't fit right, so when I find one that fits perfect, I try to get a second one for later.

We are creatures of habit. When something works, it is gratifying to be able to keep things the same, even when it means buying 4 pairs of the same shoe for the sake of planning ahead.

I can't seem to find any JNCO jeans to replace the ones I had in junior high and high school.

I'm in the shoes camp. I found one shoe that I know works, and fits. A steel toed boot, and while it saved me when working with kids who liked to try climbing up me... doesn't serve much purpose. BUT! They always fit, and I can find them for $30 at the local Walmart, so therefore I have bought the same pair of shoes every time I needed some, for the last 10 years. Why fix what isn't broken?

I do this often, especially with shoes. I've got weird feet and I'm especially hard on shoes so, when I find a pair that fit well, especially if they're on sale or clearance, I will buy multiple pairs. I also did this with a suitcase (rolling duffle) that I found at Target on clearance. I was traveling a lot at the time and knew they duffle (which was the perfect size and well made) wouldn't last forever. The two bags that I got lasted almost 14 years before having to be retired from trips requiring air travel. I still use them for car trips.

yes, when I find a good deal on a fleece jacket, hikers, etc, I never buy one I buy two or three. When one wears out I go to the closet and grab the next one.

I'm not a slave to fashion. When not at work I rarely wear anything more than jeans and tshirts. In summer I would be happy to wear nothing more than shorts.

Socks and underwear, for the most part. Most other items like shirts and jeans aren't around when the old ones wear out. Like others have pointed out, though, if I find something I like, and have the money, I'll stock up so they don't wear out as fast and last longer.

I did buy a pair of steel toe shoes for work a few months back that I really like. Since the front part is already wearing out from using my foot to stop moving pallets (not smart, I know), I'll buy the same shoes when I get a free paycheck.

vote-for5vote-against

Yep, I do it a lot based on my size (i'm 6'4). If I can find certain LT shirts or jeans that fit really well I'll buy 2 or 3 of them.

vote-for5vote-against

Nobody does this with Woot shirts? Sometimes, I wish I could live as a cartoon character and wear the same clothes every day.

vote-for4vote-against

I always buy 2 of the identical shoe style but I do it at the same time, so that I have one for each foot.

vote-for4vote-against

I have done it recently with shoes, only because I loved the style and because styles change so much, there is no guarantee I can get them when one wears out.
I wish I would of done it with some shirts I bought at Old Navy. They like to change their shirt quality all the time, and now they are just (Profanity).

vote-for4vote-against

I definitely would if I could, but I never seem to be able to find the same clothes once they're worn out enough to be replaced. Buying online's not a bad idea, though. Definitely more likely to find it than walking into a Target three years later and expecting to find the same t-shirt

vote-for4vote-against

@chipgreen: do you ever buy two left shoes by mistake?

vote-for4vote-against

Most of my clothes I have multiples of. I am very picky when it comes to pants

vote-for3vote-against

@4khaos: I didn't elaborate on my earlier reply, but yes, I do. I was just inferring that when it came to multiple copies of one design, the number of Animaniacs shirts I in that category have far outweigh the 30-something Woot shirt designs I have multiples of.

(For those keeping score, my current 240 does not include the additional copies.)

vote-for3vote-against

@narfcake: 240?! My girlfriend thinks I have a woot shirt addiction with my measly 15!

vote-for2vote-against

@dutchpants: I added more than that just in the past month. Hence the doubts of following my resolution for 2012

vote-for1vote-against

I do this with jeans. Finding jeans that fit perfectly is a pain, so once I find a style, I stick with them!! (As long as they don't get discontinued or go out of style).
