I do not agree. I love the Newegg. I really do not care what the suggested retail price is of something. When iPad was fresh good luck getting it for the suggested retail price. Now shame on you for buying it for the suggested retail price. (I hope this example is accurate.

I'll have to agree with sir-gets-hopped-up-on-caffeine (@caffeine_dude's new favourite moniker)... Newegg isn't the only one who does that, so I'm not sure why you chose to bash on one of the companies that so many hold in very high regards, as to their service. If you're to complain about that, why don't you choose Amazon, whose books are always far below "retail price" though similar to other brick-and-mortar options? Or how about DeepDiscount, or the like, who display both MSRP (my goodness, I hope nobody EVER pays $40 for a Disney DVD/Blu-ray combo) and "their price?"...

It's just one of the marketing ploys that we enjoy in our day and age... Just like how nothing is ever $20 - it's always $19.99. Or look at TVs, where you're hard pressed to find the real contrast ratio, since everyone's distracted by "dynamic" contrast ratio, which you'll never achieve in reality. It's just another thing that marks the difference between informed and ignorant consumers.

Lots of retailers post a different "Suggested Retail Price" to make their normal price look better. Often times that price posted is higher than the actual manufacturer's published MSRP.

Amazon does it, NewEgg does it, BestBuy does it.

That's why sites like this exist - so you can compare actual retail prices at multiple stores and pick the one you want based on having the whole picture.

@durkzilla: I've heard rumors that Overstock has a tendency to over inflate the original price of some items.

@lavikinga: It wouldn't surprise me, considering some of the furniture and specific accessory pricing I've seen on their site. All I can say is that I'm not paying anywhere near $500 for that pre-fab hutch! :)

@lavikinga: I rarely find a deal on overstock. Am I alone in that? I have purchased things from them, but nothing that I consider a "deal".

Amazon, Newegg, and Buy.com are my go to sites for deals.... idc what "suggested retail" is.. I always research the item I want and if it's a reasonable price, and one that I am willing to pay, I buy it.

@bellavampyre: Every once in awhile they will have sheets sets or occasional chairs at a really good price and they often have bargains over on their "world market fair trade" stuff.
