I like them. Well done DealsDotWoot Gods. You're the only other entity I worship (asides from the FSM)

vote-for14vote-against

we miss the woot verbiage too. also good job noting the flipped status of the highlight color - another tough call but we felt like the other method became counterintuitive with both up and down options.

vote-for12vote-against

I'll have to get used to it...

vote-for5vote-against

To comment on my initial post, it seems I was wrong about the red chevron not removing your vote. I think that is only the case when posting a question or deal. Off to test it.

Edit: for some reason now I can't vote either way when posting a deal in the add deal shadowbox.

vote-for27vote-against

I like the new tombstone icon.

vote-for9vote-against

I think a mouse-over should give the +/- status of the voting like it shows text for questions/deals.

Also, you could stand to make the arrows a little bigger targets, or just split the area in half and say anything above midpoint is +, anything below is -.

vote-for7vote-against

It's cool, and I like the ability to track votes for/against things, though it seems to me that it could very easily be turned into a trolling tool for people who want to give someone a hard time... Maybe that's a concern that borders on paranoia, but just a thought.

And while I definitely approve, the loss of the "Woot" verbiage on the buttons themselves is something that I will mourn. But change happens, and I can approve of this.

vote-for8vote-against

@heymo: The raven (I think) is a nice touch.

vote-for8vote-against

I'm a big fan of the fact that it shows how many "up" votes, and how many "down" votes each item/question receives.

vote-for5vote-against

Takes a second to get used to. It seems like the maroon chevron should indicate that you CAN vote up or down and then it grays out once voted, indicating that your vote has already been cast for that opinion. AKA how some buttons will gray out in other applications once "used."

Either way works for me, I just have to change the "default" in my head.

vote-for6vote-against

The mini-logo (!) replacing the chevrons idea was my single greatest contribution to deals.woot. I feel hollow, like I lost a child.

vote-for4vote-against

@arosiriak: I have to agree, I think one of the beauties of the old system was it's simplicity. Only time will tell, but some people definitely don't agree of certain "deals" so it will be interesting none the less. At least there is a limit of how much/often you can down vote, good call woot!

vote-for4vote-against

On a more serious note, I always struggle with the usability of binary coloring on binary selections. Which one is on?

vote-for7vote-against

On the fence. Depends entirely on how well it was thought out and what kind of limits it puts on members.

What if someone has a grudge against another? Is there a monitoring system that recognizes retribution behaviors?

What if a specific group of people have a different understanding of what Deals.Woot is, and vote down what they don't consider "deals" when in fact the deals are great for many other more "quiet" users who only look and aren't active in voting?

Well done for the implementation, and I will wait and see what this actually does versus what was the original thinking and intended purpose for it.

vote-for7vote-against

@trahentis: the mouse target is expanded and split in two (top/bottom) as you suggest (other than the numeral pixels themselves I believe)

edit: I take that back - it's working even hovering over the numbers themselves. nice.

vote-for4vote-against

@fgarriel: Wow! I still remember those. That was so long ago.

@snapster, how about a ! sideways with a + and - in the circle part of the exclamation point? It may be a little to active, but it could make dear fgarriel feel a little less like a hollow, lost child.

vote-for5vote-against

@claudicina: I wish they also had them for comments. But I guess one step at a time.

vote-for7vote-against

@sgoman5674: I looked at a lot of options and it appeared to me that this was necessary. I argued a lot to call our votes "woots" before (some said it was too confusing), so I feel that pain.

I know - let's make the old logo part of the long promised Beta participation icon :)

vote-for2vote-against

I like the new voting buttons.

However, up should be green and it doesn't really mesh well with the theme of the rest of the website.

vote-for6vote-against

@lll0228: The "retribution" factor was definitely one of my concerns... I'm not sure how well it'll play out either. Time will have to tell.

vote-for4vote-against

I just noticed this. It will be interesting to see how this plays out ...

vote-for10vote-against

i love the idea, i just hope it doesn't get abused. for example, someone might post a good deal, but since its not something someone likes, they may vote against it. Movies would be an example of this. either way, i think its a good idea, cause there are alot of "deals" that shouldn't be on here.

vote-for2vote-against

I don't like the inverted colors. I think the colors should come back and greyed out after you've made a choice.

vote-for7vote-against

They have my meaningless approval.

vote-for4vote-against

@arosiriak: Also, in order to keep Woot a positive experience, I think any negative vote should require an explanation.

I also notice that the "reputation" system probably received an overhaul. Is that correct @JumboWoot?

vote-for4vote-against

@tiamat114: I think the colored arrows bracketing every number would be a little overwhelming.
If they had both arrows in a fainter color when you hadn't chosen, then strengthened the one you chose and greyed the one you didn't. That, I think, would work.

vote-for4vote-against

@lll0228: I saw somebody say JW was on vacation, but I'm pretty sure you're right. I got an update that shot me all the way to the top. But that may just be because I got my downvote gauge updated before others did.

vote-for2vote-against

I think you should have to justify why you vote down a deal. Or something...I don't think I'm liking this at all. Just posted a great set of Logitech 5.1 speakers refurbed direct from Logitech for 54 freakin' dollars and it's got 2 negative votes.

Huh?

vote-for-5vote-against

Well, it took them that long to finally do something that should have been done years back.

Now if they can change back how to flip through the pages of the site, that would be great.

vote-for4vote-against

@bonoman: I can see this. Maybe at least a drop tab for multiple choice A)Duplicate B)Better Price Found C)Not A Deal at All.

Or something along those lines.

My $0.02 and that aint much I know.

vote-for1vote-against

@thatscaptjacksparro: That's actually a pretty good idea. Give you a summary as to what went wrong.

Edit: Also lovin' everyone voting down my comment!

vote-for6vote-against

The vote-down button should be particularly useful when a deal initially looks good but then later provided information demonstrates that it isn't really. Otherwise lame deals sit around occupying useful site real estate.

vote-for4vote-against

@narquespamley: Yeah I don't think it's useless, just that it should be accompanied with a "why" to help folks understand a bit better, especially the deal poster!

vote-for3vote-against

Wait am i on Reddit? Downvote.

vote-for4vote-against

@thatscaptjacksparro: The duplicates have tattles, though I try to link to the original in a comment, so better not to use downvotes for that.

I don't think it should be required, as you're going to get a lot of the same in most cases, but it's definitely available. And unless it's obvious what's wrong, I'll be trying to comment with that.

vote-for13vote-against

i can't wait to try out my downvote cannon next time the crab BS rolls around again

vote-for5vote-against

@bonoman,

Sometimes the simplest systems are the best. Let's see how this works before we try to over-engineer it. This is a pretty well-behaved community and woot staff seems to pay attention. Please don't take the criticism personally - that does unfortunately seem to be one of the risks with systems that allow downrating.

vote-for4vote-against

@lll0228: Jumbo is most likely not the person who can answer your question about rep; it is @shawnmiller who can. He is the primary programmer.

vote-for2vote-against

@pinchecat: What's the crab BS?

@narquespamley: I agree, I was just offering my initial reaction. And yeah I don't really take anything personally on the internet anymore! But I do like to know what can make my contribution better... especially on a site like this.

vote-for2vote-against

@pinchecat: I think #crab deals can no longer hit popular, though I'm not sure. I heard they threw that in to prevent another fiasco.

vote-for13vote-against

Remember one of the primary rules of downvote club: If you don't vote on the /Fresh tab, you can't impact the Popular tab!

(aka: once you go Popular, you never go Postocular)

vote-for5vote-against

It will also be interesting to see how the system affects someone like ohcheri, who as of now, the deal that went popular this morning is only a +2. Could this be the end of the lingerie daily deal?

vote-for1vote-against

Hmm, how about seeing +/- stats on comments and answers, too?

And a sort for activity, which cares about gross votes instead of net. That would help you find interesting things.

vote-for1vote-against

@thatscaptjacksparro: see, thats a good idea. a drop down check box that wont let you submit a neg vote unless you justify it. i have no problem having to justify why i voted against something
