single dome would be my definition (which most technically I think sleep 4-5) but anything with a pole in the middle is probably going into the definition of large. Or anything that includes the description of Room

If the tent itself is classified as "family" or "car camping", it's probably "large". I think that size is fine they probably just don't want something that has it's own wine cellar and porch swing attached.

@djbowman: Thanks. My guess is it is going to be fine as well. I think they do it to limit the number of people who are staying at a site.

@inkycatz: Rats. Where am I going to store my wine to keep it out of the heat now?

I would guess that by "large" they mean something with multiple rooms or at least a tent that won't fit well on the site. If you have to tramp down brush or wrap the tent around a tree to get it to fit, it's large. If you have to scoot the picnic table over a few inches, it's probably medium. Otherwise, you're probably in the small category.

Big tents are ones that have 3 rings, elephants, and acrobats...

@djanlp: I've got to 17 year old hormonal boys going to an amusement park that is sure to be full of 17 year old hormonal girls. Does that count?

@gt0163c: Yea, unfortunately, I don't know the size of the site, or the layout. All they said was it couldn't be a big tent. Or maybe they said it had to be a small tent. Oh well, we are taking the 9 x 9, and if we have to take it down, they'll just have to sleep in the air-conditioned RV comfort with the rest of us. :D

I would consider a 9 x 9 as a "not big" tent. That's a good size to have for two people.

I'd be the wrong person to ask as I consider my 16 foot diameter yurt to be about medium. I consider my 10x12 cabin tent to be small.

Well, a GP medium is actually pretty big so I would stay smaller than that.

Most campgrounds I have been to have approx 10x10 pad, so the 9x9 should work fine. While this isn't all of them, it is most of them. We camp about 50-75 days a year.
