Why not merge similar questions?

Woot should allow similar questions to be merged. That way all the answers go into one place and you don't need to track multiple threads for the same issue.

Well, the idea is that similar questions will show up over in that Similar Questions box. Often they do, although sometimes what shows up is funny instead of helpful. Funny is good though.

My favorites are the Similar Deals that show up with questions (right below the Similar Questions). For example, I'm seeing a deal for the "batteries not included" DVD, and Woot-off Checker Stickers (why someone would want stickers for a wootoff checker is beyond me, but there it is).

great suggestion - we are in fact working on some sort of merging utility but the primary focus had been on duplicated deals.. it'll be good to keep questions in mind on this as well.

@snapster: I've been thinking about this, and wonder if it isn't just as useful to let them stand on their own. Most questions die a peaceful death, falling off the end of the Fresh tab (have I told you enough times that I was wrong on the time limit?).

On those occasions where a question seems common (and has made it to Popular), perhaps new questions (that are the same as the old ones) could be turned into comments on the Popular one (and a forced refresh to somehow bring that particular question back to the forefront.

I just can't see that many questions being asked over and over, other than ones that ought to make it into the FAQ, or ones that we are simply doomed to see every few days (like "What happened to my Deal???). I don't mind answering the latter, myself, each time I've seen it.

Geez, why so negative?

You have to vote up more before you can vote down.

Don't get us wrong. Negativity has its place. And downvotes are just as essential as upvotes when it comes to making Deals.Woot a useful place to find deals.

But when your votes lean so heavily toward the dark side, we have to wonder. Go vote up a few things. Accentuate the positive for a little while. It'll do you some good, and it'll do the site some good, too. Then you can get back to dealing out the smackdowns, OK?

See, we do a lot of stuff with your vote, using it to work out the popularity of what you voted for, compare that to all the other things voted on, tally up our leaderboard, work out your reputation.
