And yet it could be something as simple as... a lot people just don't like purple or pink. Personally, I prefer black. ...oh, oh. O_O

The reason is that they have a specific palette of shirt blanks for the artists to design on. Currently, they are:

Black, Brown, Asphalt, Slate, Silver, Navy, Royal Blue, Baby Blue, Olive, Grass Green, Kelly Green, Red, Cranberry, Lemon, Creme, and White.

Retired colors are Heather Gray and Orange.

Pink has been used before - Mon Petit Chou and the Woot logo shirts. It's not available for any other artist, however. Ditto with the Teal blanks.

@gmwhit Or how about yellow. Not everyone can get away with a yellow shirt either. I'd feel like a banana or Charlie Brown or something.

@narfcake Word. Nice answer!

I'm just personally offended that they'll make aprons and hoodies, but not the holiday loincloth a suggested about 500 times.

@mikecris: I just tie a few of the flying monkeys together to make my holiday loincloth.

I think the selection could do with a deep purple, like the forest green. Pink has less of a shot, not (just) because it's stereotypically a feminine color but because it's very light. The white and yellow shirts almost never sell well; dark colors just do better.
