Anyone else think that game-themed equipment/peripherals are lame?
you know the ones i mean...call of duty keyboards, halo controllers, world of warcraft toilet paper...etc etc.
some of them are classy, but very rarely. i wanted to get my hands on the MGS PS3 once upon a time because i thought that gunmetal gray looked awesome. i think it's fine if the item in question is simply recolored, or if it's legitimately reminiscent of some memorable part of a game you really like. for example, i really like the functional replica of cole's slingpack from infamous...though it could be that i'm just partial to slingpacks in general.
but those peripherals that are pretty much exactly the same as their non-themed counterparts that have simply been maimed with a random and completely incongruous game emblem/logo...yeah, they're pretty lame.
Ummmmmm yeah, I'll agree with that. Nice rant.
While I generally agree with you, more times than not, I have seen said "branded" pieces of equipment cost less than their non-game-related counterparts.
For me, cost is paramount. I'll buy a Hello Kitty Logitech G500 if it's cheaper than the regular one. It won't be cheaper right when it is released, but when they find out that gamers obviously don't want a hardcore mouse branded with Hello Kitty, they'll start selling it cheaper and cheaper instead of completely swallowing the loss.
If you're not living in a room in your parents house, then yes.
