Mine are still where they were when I was born.

vote-for3vote-against

no, mine were "stolen" when I was a kid...went in for adenoids out and tubes in ear and they took the tonsils as a bonus at that time

vote-for3vote-against

Nope mine are gone.Late 50's here~interesting to see if mostly older folk have had them taken out. GOOD LUCK to your daughter.

vote-for2vote-against

I had mine taken out when I was a little kid along with adenoids as well.

I had mine removed when I was in my 40s. Worst week I think I've ever been through. I don't regret it a bit though.

Still "have" mine. But as you age the lymph tissue in the tonsils and adenoids atrophies, so by the time you are in your late twenties (in most people) there isn't much left of it.

vote-for3vote-against

Yup, had mine for 27 years now.

Is it something where they will need to come out eventually, or is it like an appendix, where a large number of people live their whole lives with no issues?

@kikuichimoji: I'm curious as well. I still have mine too.

vote-for2vote-against

Mine have been gone since my single digit years. Constant infections made them kind of useless to keep.

Still have mine, going 23 years strong

I still have mine. And they are pretty large, every time my doctor looks in my mouth, she says that my tonsils are huge, and she's surprised I still have them. I also tend to get tonsil stones, so I wish they would take them out, because those are annoying as all get out. But the doc says they stay. Oh well. BTW late 30's here :/

I had mine removed at around age 23. I should have had it done many years sooner I would have slept better and snored less as a child. I certainly don't miss them. My doctor said my tonsils were "the size of golf balls".

I had my tonsils and uvula removed in a single operation that included a septoplasty and a trim job on my nasal turbinates. I haven't snored in years.

Oddly enough they left my adenoids in, on purpose.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh. Yep, they're still there.

vote-for3vote-against

Nope - gone in 1979 along with the adenoids and never came down with step throat growing up since the removal. Not even from my wife who still has hers, she catches strep from time to time.

In the hospital for like 5 days, remember going to sleep and then waking up for a popsicle or jello.

removed in '68, kept in a jar for 2 years, then the jar accidentally got pushed out of the window. what a mess.

vote-for2vote-against

Still have the original set intact here produced in '62.

28 and still have them along with apendix and wisdom teeth.

do you have my tonsils?

Mine were taken out when I was five. Still used ether back then. I'll never forget that smell.

@kbsig106: I wish they'd taken mine out years ago. I still get strep, which is not common when one is 48.
