I'll buy from either but prefer Staples - rewards program is awesome!

Office Max, however, is useless. Around here the service sucks.

I agree with @mtm2 because of the rewards program, but also because their service is pretty darn good.

Glancing around my desk area at all the reams of paper and Duracell batteries that I got for free over the last year, I am going to have to make it three out of three prefer STAPLES. I donated several bags of school supplies and paper to the local teachers thanks to the fantastic deals Staples has offered. Hopefully they will be offering the 100% back in rewards for batteries again this holiday season.

I purchase from both when I am work simply because it helps me remember which department I purchased for. I only purchase for two departments so one is staples and one is office depot. I will say we seem to get better deals at staples and the website we purchase staples supplies from is pretty easy to use.

Staples, because of their rewards and also the easy rebates.

I used to go to Office Depot a lot because it was nearest to me, but it was a five minute drive.

A Staples just popped up out of nowhere just down the street (heck I could walk there) about a month ago and been going there since.

Both stores are equally great for my immediate office needs, I'm just too lazy to compare pricing differences between the two stores.

That was easy.

Every now and then office depot has a world beating sale on something random that i'd like... but other than that i get consistently better prices from staples, and they pretty much always have what i want in stock - whereas OD has to put things on order. There are also more staples in my immediate area, so that pretty much seals it.

staples. Easy rebates there are truly easy. Also, I can recycle 20 ink carts per month for $40 in staples rewards.

I like staples and just bought a new monitor from them. Their service is excellent, prices generally good, and have a 14 day return policy for electronics.

Staples. And Quill, owned by Staples. Often free shipping on Quill. Great deals, too!

Looks like everyone prefers staples and I'm the exact opposite. I'll pay extra to get it at Office Depot.

Staples has burned me too many times. They put an advertisement in the paper and you wait in front of the store to be the first one there when the store opens and they are already sold out of the product and refuse to give you rain checks. This has happened over and over again.

Bought a printer and then it went on sale 7 days later. They refused to give me the difference back. So I thought I could just return it and repurchase it and they refused to give me a refund for the sole reason that they knew I was returning it because it went on sale. I sent a letter to their corporate office to complain and they sided with the store and said that was corporate policy.

I've had Office Depot match prices from all the other competitors like Office Max and Staples. They even take their coupons so I don't need to shop anywhere else.

It's staples for me, because there is no Office Depot anywhere remotely close to where I live. We do have an Office Max in this area, but that's quite a bit further away than the closest Staples.

If I were ordering online, I would buy from whoever was cheaper.

Office Depot, only because I would have to go out of state to go to Staples.

I prefer office depot. 1, it's 30 miles closer to my house than staples. 2, their rewards program gives more for ink/toner cartridges (and accept brands staples does not) and in 6 months of using office depot I have $50 in rewards, staples never got me more than a couple of bucks.

I will admit that staples print/copy/ship center employees are 1000% more polite and knowledgable than those that work the same job at office depot.

I once walked out on a transaction because the employee at office depot completely neglected me and I wasn't confident they were preparing my copies at all.

Rewards make a big difference.

If I have to have it NOW, I opt for Office Depot since it is "just up the street". However, if time is not a factor, I find that Staples (90 miles away) has more variety in stock, it is generally cheaper, and I can get it delivered free to my home within a day or two.
However, when on big ticket items or buying in bulk, Sam's wins, hands down!

Staples. They deliver the next day for free to my office, which is awesome. They're great for shipping to my house, too, and free if over $50.

There's no Office Depot around here, so if I need to pick something up, I go to Staples, too. They had some pretty affordable back to school supplies this year, too.

I greatly dislike Staples because at least here, the local store takes cues from the Best Buy school of business. Suggestion sales and credit card offers are incredibly common. Last time I went, they were so aggressive about it, I left the items I was going to purchase at the register unpurchased and bought them at Office Depot.

I haven't been back in several years now.

I used to do all my shopping at Staples, but as of recently, haven't had the need to go there a lot, but in the past, I truly loved the service they gave and as others have pointed out the rewards program is worth it, not to mention the Easy Rebates -- those would keep me coming back for sure.

This won't help you, but I go to Staples, because it is only half a mile away.

As a teacher, OfficeMax seems to have the best teacher reward program, but overall Staples seems to have better prices.
