What's your go-to Christmas album?
OK, I'm not a huge fan of Christmas music in general and after about a week of radio play I'm ready to pull my hair out. However, this year I've discovered 'A Very She & Him Christmas' which I had previously bought for my wife while she was deployed last year. I've got to say, this thing is actually quite listenable and I can feel my Christmas cheer increasing exponentially. Good job, me! What's your favorite?
I am actually in the process of bringing up the speakers from the basement to hook up to our record player. We have a solid, unbroken tradition: we play the Nutcracker Suite every xmas eve, which is two records, front and back. We then put on some La Boheme. (Because nothing says xmas like a lovelorn courtesan dying of consumption!) Then we switch to the oldies radio station for the rest of the evening. And I have a 300 song xmas music mix on my Zune for tomorrow, xmas day.
The Little Drummer Boy album by the Harry Simeone Chorale, from 1958 (before my time!) A true classic!
Andrew Peterson's "Behold the Lamb of God" is one of my favorites. Great concept album that traces Christ throughout the Bible and actually makes the genealogy in the gospel of Matthew kinda fun.
Family Tradition dictates that it's not Christmas unless you've been listening to the Elvis Christmas CD for so many weeks on non-stop repeat that you want to go kill the King with a pb & banana fruitcake.
This year it's been the early Christmas present I bought for the other half of the household: Straight No Chaser's Christmas Cheers. I've been wandering around happily singing "Donde Esta Santa Claus" and "Hey Santa" for a week.
Charlie Brown Christmas by Vince Guaraldi
Who doesn't like laid-back Christmas jazz?
@thumperchick: We have something similar, only it's Johnny Mathis instead of Elvis.
I really love Vanessa Williams' "Star Bright" album; I can listen to it over and over without going insane.
