They call them Brazil Nuts just like we do.

Also, for those that would like to see a funny clip about Brazil Nuts:

It's absolutely worth watching -- I promise.

Is this the same sort of question: What do Italians call "Italian Dressing?"

Brazilians call them "castanhas-do-Pará", after all, they speak Portuguese in Brazil.

They are called different things in different places in Brazil (the varieties of Portuguese, depending on region could be compared to someone from Boston speaking with someone from deep Alabama, maybe, haha).

South of Brazil including Sao Paulo and lower, from what I've found, they are most commonly called "castanha", a generic term for this kind of nut, or chestnut. I guess you could get technical and call them "Castanha do Brazil" (Brazil Nut), but no one ever calls them that :)

Remember, the items you get in your mixed bag of nuts that you call Brazil Nuts are really a seed and not a nut. The outer casing of the seed looks like a coconut and is the nut part.

What do we call American cheese?

vote-for5vote-against

@samstag: I call American Cheese a clump of hydrogenated oils. That stuff is disgusting for those of us that enjoy a good cheese.

@onestinkyfish: That's right. And I believe cashews are a seed too. They grow on the bottom of a fruit like an apple without a hard shell. Then, they have to roast them to make them crunchy.

@cengland0: The video link is definitely worth watching. Thanks for sharing.

Also, I don't understand the question's downvotes, it was zero when I posted this (+4/-4).

They call them, "Deeeeeeeeeeeeez nutz." No, wait--that's Dr. Dre who calls them that.
