what is the best trilogy of all time?
ill start
Back to the future
@whatsmypassword: Wow! Exactly what I was going to put. I can still picture that little doll now 30+ years later. I don't think I will ever forget that one! I was really young too. It scarred me for life.
Movies!!
Star Wars
LOTR
Indiana Jones
Back to the Future
toy story
bourne
Jurassic Park
Books!!
Foundation Trilogy - Asimov
LOTR
@whatsmypassword: The Doll contained the spirit of of an African Warrior and it was bound to the doll as long as the chain wrapped around it's waist was kept in place... The chain fell off and the doll came alive the spirit eventually ending up in the woman who had bought the doll as a gift...
The Movie ends with the woman waiting with a BIG Knife for her despised Mother-In-Law to arrive...
Good Flick... Actress I believe was Karen Black who stared in all three of the movies the formed the "Trilogy of Terror"...
Does it have to be movies? The best trilogy, movie or otherwise, is the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy series.
For movies, even though it isn't complete yet, the new Batman trilogy is an instant classic. The Bourne trilogy is solid as well.
@ruger9mm: Gotta disagree. You can run a brilliant race, but if you fall on your face 2/3 of the way to the finish line, you lose. Godfather III is an abomination.
for me it was the original star wars trilogy.
honorable mentions:
godfather
LOTR
Back to the Future
toy story
bourne
Forgot to add Uncharted. Amazing series.
Gears of War
@mikecris: You beat me to it! Big +1
@ruger9mm: Going to have to agree here. While I am a huge Star Wars fan, The Godfather trilogy is top of my list.
When I was growing up in the 70s (ahem) my brother and I watched Trilogy of Terror. It was three movies right in a row. We were so scared we didn't sleep for weeks. In one of the episodes this woman either won or bought a little wooden statue or doll of a native, complete with loin cloth and spear. And at night the thing came alive and terrorized her and her husband. My god we were sure that little statue was hiding some where in our own house waiting to get us. Yes, it has stuck with me all these years.
Larry, Moe, and Curly.
Fist Full of Dollars..... For a Few Dollars More.... The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.
For me the matrix series change the game on how action pack movies should be. Its the whole reason why people were bored with Star Wars 1-3, Lucas forgot to up the ante.
I mean, unwatch it. Stupid autocorrect.
While I'm at it, that should say "original" in my original post.
@caron7: See the wiki:

There was also a bit in Wired a few months back:
http://www.wired.com/geekdad/2011/12/star-wars-holiday-special/
It's a classic. Really brings together the star wars series, and answers all those niggling questions, like who is Chewy's father....
Edit: be aware, you can't unwatchable it...
Rocky....Rocky.....Rocky....
Blade series... jk
@okham: Ok, I'll buy that, if only to keep your voices all happy. I guess I can think of it as part one of a new trilogy. And they decided to spare us the rest? (and help me here - why don't I recall the Christmas special you refer to earlier? You are surely not referring to an Ewok movie?)
This question needs renamed to what is the only trilogy worth mentioning...
Star Wars Episode 4,5,6
Back to the Future!
also...
Scream
Jurassic Park, Original Star Wars
Charlie Brown, all classics
@caron7: I love Harrison Ford. I did not, however, love that movie. It was nice to see Karen Allen again, though. I had similar feelings toward the second Star Wars trilogy. I just have to think of them as a different entity. It's the same way I keep the voices in my head separate.
You're all wrong, The Godfather is the best trilogy. End of discussion.
@okham: But there was Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones, which is all that really matters, isn't it? Really? See my previous post - grew up during the original SW releases and at the time Harrison Ford was ALL THAT. And he's still got it!
@caron7: Nope. There was no crystal skull, no fridge in a nuclear blast, no giant ants and most assuredly no Shia.
End of story.
@okham: Umm... Raiders, Temple, Crusade, Crystal Skull? One, two, three, four?
@spacezorro: I have to disagree, having grown up during the time the first releases were made. A quick wikipedia search yields "In 1978, a Time magazine article reported that the newly formed Star Wars Corp. would be producing "Star Wars II, and then, count them, ten other planned sequels." And WE ARE WAITING!
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles???

@spacezorro: seconded. Except for the Christmas Special. That was excellent!
@caron7: There are only 3 Star Wars movies.
Those other "movies" were inspired by Star Wars.
@moondrake: Ah ha! Thanks for letting me know. So, this will be sometime after Newt Gingrich establishes a moon colony? I guess I will have to look into those deep freeze options if I want to be around to watch them...
@caron7: They'll be filmed on location.
Only real problem with LOTR is that it is actually six books, published in three volumes.
However, this fact is a meaningless technicallity and can be safely ignored, so I'll go with it as well.
@moondrake: Beat me to it. Definitely LOR.
We can't nominate Star Wars because that's a nine part series - hey, wait, what happened to the other 3 parts?
Origins star wars, followed by the Indiana Jones trilogy. There were only three. Really.
Lord of the Rings.
