Should we have a semi-popular tab?
Often I see good deals get a good amount of votes for, but not enough to go popular (right away). Instead they get moved to other pages by crappy deals that no one votes up. This pushing to the next page kills a lot of traffic to this good deal.
I propose a semi-popular tab. In my idea, once the deal is added if within say 20 minutes in has 10 votes it moves into the semi-popular tab for a certain time like 1 hour. The semi-popular tab is acting like purgatory, in which the deal will either go popular or back where it originally started.

The reason I ask: http://deals.woot.com/deals/details/6a288ad4-6bbb-4229-98ea-68358835d248/blockbuster-express-7-movie-rentals-for-free#1 I added an hour ago in 10 min it had 8 votes and now its on the 3rd page with 11 votes. (With all the deals before it with only 1 vote a piece)
Ok, I laughed. The idea does have some merit, though. I would actually look at that tab because sometimes items are gender specific and don't receive a universal up vote from the opposite sex.
Plus, I'm just lazy sometimes and don't want to scan 15 pages. Good suggestion.
@jsoko: I think the main reason it didn't rocket into popular is because it is a free deal. Not sure if it has changed at all, but those used to take a significant number of extra votes to make it popular.
I think sorting by votes for the day on the fresh tab pretty much solves the semi-popular problem. If you fear the fresh tab, tough luck.
Seconding the sort by votes on the Fresh tab as the best way to do this - no extra coding required...
@shadowhunter312: I understand what you are saying... I just get so tired of 0-1 vote deals clogging everything!!!
I disagree with this idea. How do you think the semi-popular deals will feel when they're put into that category? Oh, you're SORT OF popular, but not really. Why don't you go and hang out over there for awhile and then go back to being with your unpopular buddies? Those deals' self-esteem will be ruined, I say!
@oahceasgnikgneas: it's the ol' always-a-bridesmaid-but-never-a-bride syndrome.
I don't think it's necessary. People DO browse through several pages on Fresh. (As evidenced by the number of people asking why a company won't honor the price from an old promotion.)
Lots of popular deals spent their time being pushed down the Fresh page. Your deal could still get popular.
However, I like the concept. It would be nice if there were an area which only housed the deals members deemed good, by several voting. That would help remove the crap from my view...
...but, there's a problem. I'll be much more inclined to view the semi-popular section and ignore Fresh.
If the concept could be implemented in a manner which doesn't introduce a new tab, I'm interested. Perhaps a listing of the semi-popular like the "similar deals" area.
