@catbertthegreat: That site was very good to deal with, too. Quick to respond, good tracking number, and I already have the frogs.

@shrdlu: I kept sending it in to be RIPed but woot staff hasn't pulled the trigger yet. I hope they continue to forget.

vote-for1vote-against

@catbertthegreat: Not to disillusion you, but someone must have requested it to be un-RIPped, since it was definitely there when I looked at it earlier. Tombstone and all.

vote-for2vote-against

@shrdlu: Hmm, well as long as it is still up, I'm happy.

vote-for2vote-against

@catbertthegreat: Okay, I'm out. You're in charge. Hopefully things will be back to normal tomorrow, for whatever values of normal you'd like. Everything always explodes at the same time (sympathetic explosions, now there's a thought).

vote-for2vote-against

@shrdlu: Woot go boom.

Don't worry I'll do my best to hold down the fort.

vote-for2vote-against

@catbertthegreat: Actually, it was other, completely unrelated stuff that was exploding. Still is, unfortunately. The troubles over here seem pleasant in comparison.

I'm still a bit miffed that things I had that got the right amount of votes never hit the popular page. I'd submitted something on a whim, checked on something else 30 minutes later, and noticed that I had 5 votes. Wow (I said), that's going to hit the Popular tab! How funny is that? Nope. Not even after a couple more votes. My feelings are hurt.

It was supposed to match up with the Burr Grinder that @hobbit had posted, but now it's just a sad little orphan, doomed to fall of the Fresh tab in a few hours.

@hobbit: Yeah, there's just no telling, really. I suspect that things are off due to the other fun. Not really important, and I'm over it. I just want the reputation system to work again. It's creepy to see people I know with white triangles, and a nuisance when I'm trying to decide on some deal or other over on Fresh, and have to do all the extra due diligence before voting (and I'll bet real money that I'm the only one that crazy, too).

vote-for1vote-against

@shrdlu: well just look at when people signed up for woot. Clearly this is Karmic payback for something I did somewhere in the world. I am not worried too much about it.

vote-for3vote-against

@hobbit: Oh, I'll bet this is going to bring down the wrath of the Woot Overlords, but... I find sign up date to be less than useful, with the exception of noting those people that signed up on or after the Deals site went live (which was 11/23 for those who are counting).

I innocently point out that there seem to be some accounts which have very early sign up dates, and yet show no purchases from Woot, and seem to be used mainly for forum spam. Perhaps they were made early in the day, and perhaps their original passwords were, oh, just guessing, but just maybe they were the same as the account name. For example.

No, I prefer looking to see what other deals, comments, and votes a deal poster has. No votes? Since the poster gets an automatic vote, if they CAN vote, it counts against them (for me). Goofy random comments, made for rep improvements? No vote from me.

vote-for3vote-against

well gee I am glad
A) that I buy on woot.
B) that I make pretty good comments most of the time
C) that I post good deals.

Because I know my sign up date was pretty early in the wooting days, although not as early as many, I think I came along a year or two into woot.

vote-for1vote-against

@hobbit: Well, we're also pretty clear that YOUR account was not who I was talking about. If you're a bot, you're a pretty convincing one.

Seriously, though, I've seen too many people with early sign up dates putting nothing but spammy kinds of deals up.

vote-for1vote-against

@shrdlu: Sorry, I just woke up. The same problem that happened a few weeks ago is back then, but it seems more highly selective. Your coffee press did not go popular but plenty of other things did. Woot must be punishing you. Of course that appears to be one of many errors that have popped up overnight.

vote-for1vote-against

@catbertthegreat: I rather suspect that it was lost in the effort to fix reputation. I seldom post deals at a time where I would expect them to be popular (yes, on purpose), and was actually quite surprised to see the number of votes after 30 minutes. I'm over being miffed. I'm far more relieved to have the bold on new comments back.

You are very kind, and I'll be relieved when things are back to normal.

Oh, and that wasn't a few weeks ago. It was 9 days. Time flies here in the clouds.
