Has your voice ever been mistaken on the phone?
Was your gender misidentified? Did someone ask to talk to your mommy or your daddy?
A few days ago, DH was on the phone. I was on my computer, saw a photo of a mannequin pulling a thong away from it's butt. I chuckled.
My husband, listening to the person on the other end, laughed, lowered the phone and said "honey, she asked me if I have a bird. She said it sounded just like a macaw". I bet that CSR was mortified and will never ask that again.
I regularly am mistaken for my boss. Which is a bit awkward when the other party doesn't realize that I am not the person he/she thinks I am.
My brother and I sound very similar on the phone.
some random strangers I've called in the middle of the night say my deep breathing sounds like darth vader
I've been called "sir" a couple of times, which isn't nearly as embarrassing as when I get called "sir" in person.
I often get mistaken for my coworkers on the phone; I think our clients just refer to us all by the first admin assistant name they can think of. When this happens, I threaten to start using my Southern accent again.
I called home once and my little brother picked up.
I said hello.
My brother said "Hi Dad!"
I said "......it's not dad, it's me your brother."
He said "C'mon stop kidding dad!"
I hung up and went to the corner and cried.
Calling back to my family in the States from a Japanese cell phone, they always forget the number so they don't know who I am at first. It is fun messing with them
Everyone in my family has pretty distinct voices. And none of us answer the phone. So that's pretty much solved for me.
