I don't think there is any credible point for either. Google searches bring up origin claims between 2008 & 2010 for both, so that's no good. Was around before that. Best to just silently declare it started the day of your birth, by you, and don't give anyone the chance to prove you wrong.

I'm gonna say Resident Evil (videogame not movie), that is where it all started for me.

Thinkgeek got me going on it. Tanga fed the monster some more.

Also hanging head in shame. Though, I don't know/care about zombies. Love bacon - but honestly do not understand why it's become a 'thing.' The bacon room 'freshener' puzzled me beyond belief. Crabs? I'm often crabby - does that count? Sometimes I think bacon, zombies and other such things have become viral. Lemmingish?

My brother and nephews were playing Left 4 Dead. I thought it was the goriest game I ever saw. Then, as a joke I decided to join them. I loved it, and still play. That led to reading the Walking Dead novels, watching the Walking Dead tv show, then seeing all the zombie movies I never saw before like Shaun of the Dead, and recently I saw Resident Evil for the first time.

Robots, monkeys and squid were played out. Moustaches, bacon and zombies took their place. It's always something...

Bacon has definitely had a strong presence on the internet since at least 2008. I can easily find articles dating from that year regarding bacon.

I suspect there's been some level of fascination (though less publicly) with bacon for far longer, mainly due to Homer Simpson. I'm convinced that's where it originated. He has an abundance of bacon-related quotes (see, for example, at http://www.royalbaconsociety.com/2008/03/12/top-10-bacon-quotes-from-homer-simpson/).

Zombies is even trickier. My guess is "28 Days Later" and their breed of fast zombies created a zombie renaissance, so to speak. A ton of zombie movies were released in the years following. This slowly leaked onto the internet as a meme in the years following.

I've always loved bacon.

Zombies started being cool to me when I decided on doing something medical as a career. It just simply intrigues me, as they're not really mystical like vampires and werewolves, but rather something that could actually be studied, observed, and possibly even cured.

I'm not claiming to have started any of these movements, I just joined in on them whenever.

It was a picture in the New World Globe Observer that did it for me. Right next to Big Foot's mother was a Zombie Frying Bacon

Bacon is just a very interesting thing. I hate when my GF brings home the bacon. I feel compelled to make bacon at the most random times just to watch it sizzle and cook.

Have you ever tried Zombie Bacon? 'Nuff said...

i think a better question is when will it END?

(soon, i hope)

I think it started with the NERD.

It's a You Tube thing, about the bacon anyway. Go watch anything from "Epic Meal Time" and you'll understand. Though, to be honest, I'm not sure if they started the bacon craze, contributed to the crazy and made it bigger, or simply jumped on the bandwagon.

I thought it happened when the pushy lady on Desperate Housewives, you know the bossy self-righteous one that constantly ruins her husband's life, ate all the raw bacon.

Just made some bacon-wrapped shrimp. Looked in the fridge, saw bacon and shrimp, and voila! Little sweet chili sauce to dip in.
