Sure why not? Is there a reason you ask this? My favorite cologne for ment is Paul Smith Black Label - reminds me of a lovely Irish boy I know.

I was just curious if women liked cologne on guys in general or if it depended what age they are. Also, I will take suggestions on what everyone thinks smells good!

vote-for3vote-against

I think that they can if they like to. However, pouring it on WAY too thick or walking around in a cloud of Axe body spray is reminiscent of Jr. High.

@ohhellothere: well my one major complaint is some men bathe in it and you can smell them coming down the hall - peeyew or in some cases thanks for the warning but I know women who do the same thing. My age demographic has little to do with my preference so you all still get to guess on that, and most of you are wrong anyway.

another good cologne is

John Paul Gautier

BAD - No man should EVER WEAR is AXE ick!

Yes, in fact if they all wore this, the world would be a better place: http://deals.woot.com/deals/details/797e712b-5aed-4c17-9d3a-8f855b112c90/subtil-cologne-for-men-by-salvatore-ferragamo

Axe is not cologne and wearing it makes you smell like an ass. It does not get you girls.

Wear it. Do not marinate in it. That goes for the ladies as well. If your fragrance enters the room before you do, you're doing it wrong.

@catbertthegreat: but, but, but, in the commercials....

vote-for4vote-against

@catbertthegreat: so tell me did you test this out in the field?

vote-for4vote-against

Only if they want to wink All kidding aside, I like it! But really try a variety until you find one that works for you. Some people wear whatever is trendy, and it doesn't smell good on them. Also, moderation is the key. If someone is standing right next to you and they can smell it, that's about the right amount.
I don't have a favorite, as each man is different, and should wear what smells good on him.

@hobbit: No, I didn't. If I smelled like that for more than a minute, I would have killed myself or cut off my nose.

vote-for2vote-against

@catbertthegreat: just checking, it would have been a painful lesson to learn I am sure.

@catbertthegreat: apparently AXE is useful if you are deskunking animals. ;)

I'm going to semi-hijack the thread because I'd like a few suggestions on what to look for my husband to wear once in awhile. He used to wear Old Spice when we were dating. I finally asked him to stop wearing it. It was difficult to feel romantically inclined when my fiance' smelled like Daddy!

I want to find something that has the spiciness of that good old stand by, with some wood and citrus overtones, but I haven't a clue where to start.
What I'd really like is to find something that smells like cookies, and Christmas, and fires in the fireplace with spiced apple cider and sparkles. Good grief. I realized he needs to SMELL like a holiday commercial LOOKS!

(And I've got the added burden that heavy florals of any kind give me a riotous head ache as do sickly sweet fragrances.
I can lightly wear, without my head exploding: Vera Wang "Bouquet," R.Lauren "Romance," Ellen Tracy "Tracy", and Tommy Hilfiger "Dreaming.")

@lavikinga: Get him a sample of the stuff I wear, it is very mild.

@ohheilothere: Look at it this way. You have truly succeeded if a woman catches a hint of your cologne and moves closer to enjoy it. You have failed if she has to step back because it is making her head hurt, eyes water or nose itch.

Every cologne smells different when it interacts with your body chemistry. Definitely try a few before you buy one! A good aftershave is also a nice way to go.

@lavikinga: Go to Nordstroms and get help. They will send you home with samples of your favorites and you can see how you like them on him.

@lavikinga: I like Acqua Di Gio a lot. It's the flagship Armani cologne. Also Polo Black.

Thanks, All. Great starters for me. @glindagw: Nordstrom's is a bit far, so I'll have to try some of our better department stores and see what I can find. Never thought to ask for samples.

@catbertthegreat I'll definitely see if I can find that particular fragrance.

@thefenst Acqua Di Gio, got it. (The Polo is a non-starter. Had severe hyperemesis with my last pregnancy. BAD, bad, bad. One of the corpsmen wore it on the floor and it set me off faster than warm hot dog water. Haven't been able to stomach it since.)

@lavikinga: Nordstrom's came to mind because they fill empty sample bottles. I think that you never know what will work until he wears it. I used to narrow it down to two or three choices that I liked & then let him choose his favorite.

vote-for2vote-against

@lavikinga: try the ones I suggested as well. I really like them.

vote-for4vote-against

@lavikinga: I got myself the samples from Nordstrom, so I know they have it.

Also here is the store locater for them, note insanely Flash crazy: http://www.ferragamo.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/TopCategories_31150_35551#/store/27644/

Just ask one of the attendants for a sample. They will go behind cashier counter and pull out whatever you want. Just remember what the bottle looks like in case you can't remember what it's called. Do not under any circumstances start looking at what anything else costs, it can induce heart palpitations.

If you have a salon that stocks the American Crew line of products that is another choice for you.
It is really nice men's brand and the line I use of theirs has a wonderful, mild, citrus mint smell.

I combine these four,
American Crew Citrus Mint Refreshing Shampoo
American Crew Citrus Mint Refreshing Conditioner
American Crew Citrus Mint Body Wash
American Crew Post-Shave Cooling Lotion

I shave with electric so I don't use any of their other shave products. They have another line, but I don't like the smell so much as well as a cologne.

Your man will smell wonderful when he's all done. This stuff is my Axe commercial come true.

@catbertthegreat: When you see Ferragamo, you know ahead of time there's money involved.

I own 5 different colognes. Doesn't really make a difference. Stick with just one.

Thanks for everyone's help. I found this place: http://theperfumedcourt.com/default.aspx They offer samples at a price. Because you can chose by notes, I've got an additional list of fragrances to search for.
This place even has the Yardley April Violets that my Gran wore for decades.

@hobbit: You wanna smell like Boadicea the Victorious? They've listed even that!
