questionswhat's a good mini fridge?

I used a mini fridge two years in college. That was only a few years ago. As far as brands go, any major appliance brand is good. I would avoid those college special fridges though and the ones with can drink holders in the doors. $250 shouldn't restrict you much. I think that getting a two door small enough to just pick up and carry down stairs may be an issue. Have you been to look at any? any major appliance store will have them out to at least look at even if you don't buy it there.

I will also add that now through November is a great time to buy appliances, you may be able to pick up a cheap floor model or discontinued model. and if there is a Sears Outlet nearby I'd check it out for a minor scratch and dent to save a bit more dough.

I have this Emerson from Target:

Only $159 right now. I have never thought of Emerson as my "go to" brand, but I have had this one for 5 years and it is still going strong. Really a nice little fridge.

I'd back up what @hot72chev has suggested. I've owned Emerson wine coolers for several years, and they're very efficient and (so far) problem free. Emerson's actually a decent brand.

People may need to do a copy/paste on the Target link, though, because the affiliate link that Woot inserted was giving me an error. On the other hand, I have all those things blocked, so that may also have caused a problem.

@figgers3036, I don't think you are going to do much better than this one. That's a great price (it's a temporary markdown from $200).

[Edit] Whoa! In addition, take a look at the prices at Amazon (from third party sellers):

Sorry my link is broken. Mods, can anyone help fix, please? Paging @thunderthighs @prettywootprincess

@hot72chev: It works if you copy/paste it. Not sure why it's not working on a direct click though.

@thunderthighs: It's the affiliate link thing that's busted. A quick copy/paste of her link works just fine.

So glad this topic was posted. I just dashed over to Wally World and bought an Emerson two-door fridge (3.something cubic feet) for DS to take to college on Saturday. It wasn't the B&D one mentioned by @dcarioca above, but apparently those weren't in stock. However, I was able to get the Emerson one at the same price ($128 I think).

@belyndag: Any word yet on how well it works?

@figgers3036: Sorry. No. It's still in the box and is loaded up in the back of a van to drive to college on Saturday. It will be a while before I will know how well it works, and this might be too late to help anyone.

Two door is definitely the way that you want to go, anything less means you loose a freezer and also the space where the fake one pretends to be. Other than that, sticking to the name brands is the best way to go, as other posters have said.

I do hope though that your new place is not illegally offering a space to you. Where my mother in law lives, she can have a full apartment in her basement with one exception, a full size fridge. Don't know why but apparently with the zoning laws the fridge makes it a second dwelling and is taxed seperately. Hope nothing like that is going on with you. Best of luck with your new place and the move to get there.

I've used a 2.7 cubic foot one as an upstairs fridge for a year now and haven't had any problems with it. There's an intern temperature dial (settings between 1-4 I think) that makes a noticeable difference in temp changes. The little freezer at the top works, but I haven't found a need for it yet.

@wisenekt: Thanks for the concern about the renting space. Every area has its quirky laws, so around here it tends to be no separate kitchen, which means no full sized refrigerator nor full oven/stove. Which is fine for me, I just need to cook around the owner, and isn't a big deal.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes!
