Would you like to talk about NERF guns?
I thought the product thread was nice but... when it comes right down to it, I really want to talk about nerf gun painting, modifications, and techy things to do with NERF.
You in?
Holy wow ! You can mod nerf guns ? When did this start ? I had no idea. Ive never been able to keep track of the bullets long enough to use the gun more than a few times.
Totally want to expose my kids to nerf but the whole shooting at people thing is a struggle
The NERF N-Strike Rayven CS-18-34069 looks pretty awesome I did not realize that they had modular guns now or semi-automatic ones
I have been looking for a hobby and I feel like nerf gun modification might be just the right thing for me! It's art and toys and suction cup darts all in one.
I have one of those N-Strike guns that will be modded as soon as my son is old enough to understand why I can shoot farther than him.
The surprising thing is how easy most of these mods are. The more complicated ones involve serious technical skills such as "drill this thingy" and "break this part off".
I have a Jolt at my desk at work, unmodded. Self-defense.
@gideonfrost: PS you can mod the darts, too.
Awesome.
Now if I were to get into this, I would go all out. Let's talk about more power.
Here we have a streamline, not-too-heavy, 1 gallon air compressor from DeWalt (one of my favorite tool providers) http://www.amazon.com/DEWALT-D55140-1-Gallon-Trim-Compressor/dp/B000HZJMFM.
This could be easily modified into a backpack, which could then be hooked up to a modified gun. The simple design of the compressor would make it easy to modify into whatever time, dimension, or galaxy you want it to be from :)
Foam balls would have never hit so hard!
@dmaz: Now we are talking thats serious. Who wants pump action anymore anyway.
so what is a good starter gun to add your mods to ?
@djbowman: Maverick is a good start.
@lotsofgoats: I want one that can be upgraded into an semi-automatic looks like this one is single cock
Curses I got so excited about these I bid on a lot of the on ebay

Now I might actually win. I totally dont have the money .... Crap ...@inkycatz this is totally your fault!
Making a Nerf gun go semi-auto is going to require some outside power source, and at that point you're probably better off just buying one of the automatic guns to begin with.
Of course, if you're insane, you could do this: http://www.instructables.com/id/Semi-Automatic-NERF-Longshot/#step1
I have a couple of the dart guns but really enjoy the bow and arrow set up at parties.
@inkycatz sneaky sneaky...
we have nerf wars in my office every once and a while. To get all the way across the cubicle farm, I removed the air dampener in my Nerf Recon CS-6. I also taped up a hole that helps redirect air flow away from the back of the dart. This allows for more of a push on the actual dart and increase range by ~20ft.
I also added some spacers in the spring to allow for full compression, giving it a little more oomph.
I want Valve to partner with Nerf for a year. Make Nerf version of all of our favorite in game weapons. All of the original TF2 weapons (That shoot bullets obviously, sorry Pyro), the L4D weapons, and more! It would be easy to do for nerf, even if we throw some of the newer hand weapons like the Horseless Headless Horseman's axe or the Boston Basher would go right along with Nerf's foam swords. I think I would buy everything in the series if Valve and Nerf did this.
