I know its cliche, but I love to get shot glasses too. From places I visit, or just that say ridiculous things, or have a cool logo. Neat to display around the Apt, too. Friends have brought me them from some pretty cool places too - Japan, Russia, Korea, Peru, etc. Fun, easy and small thing to ask of people while they travel.

Sorry about the fire :-/ must be a tough thing to get through.

I collect PS3 games. I don't actually play video games that much anymore, but I still like to buy them when they're cheap and add them to the collection.

I travel about 8 to 10 times a year with my work, and if i go somewhere new I buy a refrigerator magnet. I got 3 kids so 1 side of the fridge is Literally covered with "ART".

I currently have over 160 different Woot shirts (and several more which are multiples) ... so I guess that.

I collect shot glasses. They are neat, and can be grabbed anywhere! Still need a good way to display them though.

@rprebel: First off, sorry about your stuff. Hopefully you're finding new things to replace the ones you lost.

As far as my collecting goes, I used to collect DVDs, but with the digital media shift, I haven't bought a movie in months.

I still collect comics, some baseball cards (i'll buy a pack or two each season), and also shot glasses.

As George Carlin used to say... "Stuff"

@meh3884 and @woothulhu: thx, and yes I have quite a bit of new stuff now, including a new house to put it all in.
@narfcake: Wow. That's a lot of shirts.

original artwork. nothing super expensive, just stuff my wife and i like. we took a trip to asheville, nc this summer and got a cartoony painting of a guy, er... molesting a vacuum cleaner, it's hilarious.

I used to collect keychains when I was little, but now they seem pretty lame.. I collect money now

vote-for8vote-against

I collect less these days. I used to go to auctions on a weekly basis. But, collections I do have:

Cameras, coins, stamps, Americana, general antiques, old decorative tins, old bottles and some other items. But, probably my largest collection is dust.

@gmwhit: the best part is that we hung it up in our living room right above the tv to make friends and relatives slightly uncomfortable

Shotglasses and.....I know this is odd but, flashlights.

I love LED flashlights, lanterns, headlamps etc.

Recently it seems like I'm collecting Woot shirts...

I don't know if its technically considered a collection, but I usually buy a band's shirt when I see them in concert.

vote-for8vote-against

Books. And from time to time I will actually read one of them.

vote-for5vote-against

The only problem with a lifetime of collecting is getting rid of stuff. Instead of your owning it, you realize it owns you and you just have to toss it.

"But, probably my largest collection is dust."

@kmeltzer: You are welcome to my collection of dust. I would sell it, but I'm too busy to put it on eBay.

Anything related to Modest Mouse. I have one of Isaac Brock's Wicks guitars, all their records on vinyl/cd/Japanese cd's, a platinum record for GNFPWLBN, ~30 gig posters and set lists and a bunch of other odd rarities. The only thing I don't have are their two Cassette tapes but I didn't feel like dropping 200 dollars on them.

Also- I collect records. I probably have ~100 currently and I really started collecting records the last couple years...

Action figures, cars, toys, games, Xbox 360 faceplates, music stuff, beer. Just all sorts of stuff. If it's cool and/or limited, I want it.

vote-for7vote-against

It looks like I am now collecting Woot! boxes. I have a stack of about a dozen of them in the garage. I'm going to have to figure out something to do with them.

I collect old US coins I have a relatively small collection of about 500+ coins with about 250 of them being wheat pennies. Most coins I have gotten for free as change, some I have bought, and my favorite way to get old coins is to go to banks. They will normally separate them out of the regular coins and if you ask they will generally let you have them and when they do they have to give them to you at face value. I love trading banks a dollar for $10-$50 dollars worth of coins.
I have just started collecting paper money, but it is probably not something I will put much effort into like with coins.
Other than that you could say I collect computer parts. I still have parts from a computer I had about 12 years ago. I don't know why but I just hang on to them. I guess I need to find a place that recycles electronics, I really don't want to trash my old stuff

In all seriousness, I try to buy a coozie any time I go to an event/city I haven't been before. Got a dam coozie. A Hoover Dam Coozie.

Blu-rays, t-shirts, watches, sunglasses, hats. I love collecting stuff.

vote-for5vote-against

Everything.

(Current particular interest is firearms/gear.)

vote-for4vote-against

Comic strip books (Calvin and Hobbes, Graphic Novels, etc)
Witty Christian T-shirts

There are lots of other things that I have large collections of (star wars novels, Pokemon figures, etc), but I no longer actively collect

vote-for5vote-against

Rocks, semi-precious or just pretty minerals, cut in a heart shape, about 2" across. Like these:

That's really the only thing I collect. I have 23 of them so far, because I'm picky about appearance and size.

vote-for7vote-against

Bazooka Joe bubblegum comics.

Don't poke fun, but Winnie the Pooh. My mom says it's because when I was born I had to spend a few weeks in the incubator (sp) and the Dr's let her put in a stuffed winnie the pooh. Since then (I'm 30) I've loved pretty much all things WtP related.

I used to collect Hard Rock Cafe menus back when they had the name of each city on the front (and having a HRC in your town was something unique). I even got one in Chinese from HRC HK.

I also collect match boxes from restaurants and bars I visit when I travel, as they remind me of special times with friends and trips.

My main criteria to collect something is that it reminds me of good times and that I can get it for free! (Sadly, Woot Shirts dont meet the 2nd criteria).

pens and stationery. fountain pens, mostly, they're pretty awesome, but I have a pretty big stockpile of general pens, paper, and the like...

vote-for4vote-against

US currency.
Predominately two-dollar bills, but I also like single silvers. I used to collect state-series quarters, and solid-copper core pennies, but not so much anymore.

Guns.
I have several guns, but I collect Remington model 241's and Winchester model 12's.

And other crap. Lots and lots of other crap.

So I would say I collect collections.

vote-for5vote-against

Dust, it would seem.sigh

vote-for7vote-against

Antlers from the deer I hunt.

Before anyone says I'm a terrible person for hunting a poor defenseless deer, hit one with your car going 60. Guarantee you will have a change of heart for at least a few minutes. And I don't waste them, I eat them, they are delicious, and anyone is welcome to try my cooking if they think otherwise!

vote-for2vote-against

Since dust has been mentioned in several posts, let's not leave out dust bunnies. @mtm2: Don't look now but your triangle has been whitewashed!

vote-for3vote-against

@knarf009: Same. Mostly 360 and Wii though. And PC. My Steam games list is looong, with a lot of grey (undownloaded) titles. A couple years ago, I started collecting retro systems (mostly ones I owned/played as a kid and wanted real access to again...emulation isn't enough ;-). ) There's no way I'm ever going to beat them all within my lifetime (and some, I'm not going to get around to playing).

I collect movies too. If I really liked it or I'm really bored, I'll buy it. I usually average 4 or 5 a month.

I like having that stuff around me, and both of those collections are fairly cheap. And it's always fun to rediscover a real gem!

vote-for2vote-against

It's not intentional, but I have a growing collection of cardboard boxes...

vote-for3vote-against

I collect baseball cards. I have a over 2000 different Derek Jeter cards.

vote-for2vote-against

Model trains mostly (HO scale) and bills... I seem to collect a LOT of bills.

vote-for3vote-against

@thetexastwister:
I was a huge reader as a kid.
I still buy books. Hardly ever read them.

I collect Woot monkeys!

vote-for3vote-against

over 300 bandanas from all over the world :)
