questionswouldn't it be fun to map the woot monkeys?

Well, the implementation is a matter than can be resolved. The real problem is the concept doesn't really work with Woot. Woot only sells in the US, so it's relying on people to take Monte with them on vacation/work trip in Paris. People on board with that are too far & between for it to thrive.

(btw, I think you might have pulled this idea from a commercial a few years ago for an iPhone or something. Some type of phone.)

Just want to clarify: Yes, I do think it would be fun.

@gregorylikescheapstu: This concept has been around long before that commercial. It was done in the movie Amelie. My friend had a little plastic figurine that he would take a picture of at certain landmarks when he was abroad and that was many years ago.

We did that with our stuffed pig. Got friends and family to help take it around the world. From the Cubs Convention to Vegas to Shanghai, to Alaska The Pig was quite the traveller.

Some graduates in the Seattle area kidnapped some lady's lawn gnome and took it to Las Vegas and when they got back they returned the gnome and a picture book of it having fun in Las Vegas (going to the casinos, visiting the dam, with showgirls, etc)

The are some traveling monkey pics on woot proper already.

That is the new over-pass at the Hoover Dam.

@ferrisbueller: That's exactly what I was envisioning!! Ok, 1 "pin" for Hoover Dam. And yes, around the world would totally depend on a Woot Monkey making its way into someones luggage for picture opportunities. Of course I would think that perhaps some kind Wooter may have sent a Woot Monkey to a friend or relative that lives abroad.

My main inspiration for this was from where I used to work. We manufactured machines that were shipped all around the world. When our set-up teams would travel to complete installation, we had a little 7" tall stuffed figure with a white lab coat we named "Dave". We would prop Dave on a machine and take a picture with the non-setup team employees in the background. This became a fun historical scrapbook of installations and we could always figure out which company and country Dave was in based on the people in the background.

@mellielou: I am heading into Seattle tomorrow morning. What color and size of monkey do you want in front of the Space Needle?

I "stole" a friends bunny (lawn-gnome-type, not real) while she was watching. I then spent the next 3-4 hours photographing the thing in places she knew & didn't. I even had it in jail; well, behind bars. It played with other animals, played in a waterfall, drove a jeep, etc. Then, surreptitiously, I returned it. Fun times.

@theoneill555: Your pick. It could be a Woot Monkey family photo if you have a few to choose from :) I'm so excited!!

@mellielou: little ones, big ones, or keychain size?

@theoneill555: A little one and a big one holding hands looking at the Space Needle :) Thanks for asking, I appreciate the thought.

I'm going to Seoul, South Korea in September. Maybe I'll remember to pack a [small] monkey and take a picture. We may be visiting the DMZ. Do you want flame, smiley, or tiger in the photo?

@msklzannie: If I had to pick, I'm leaning towards tiger
