Will you be buying a Woot-branded skillet this Saturday?
On woot.com they posted a "how woot works" video which is a series they have where they go behind the scenes to show... how Woot works.

The latest video shows how the manufacturer made a Woot-branded cast-iron skillet. it's got a huge woot ! exclamation mark on its underside. they said they'll be selling the skillet on Home.woot sometime THIS WEEK! So tune in! and then anticlimactically muttered that it'll be Saturday
what do you think? would you get one? have you heard of Lodge skillets before? what do you think the price will be?
closest guess gets a bunch of upvotes :)
I don't need a new skillet, I don't need a new skillet, I don't need a new skillet...IN FOR 3.
I'm guessing $25+$5
YES! I just learned about it today and HOW COOL DOES THAT THING LOOK
As much as I want to, I already HAVE a lodge skillet of that particular type... Maybe if they had released a flat griddle model instead?
Also, I wonder about the wisdom of removing surface area from the center of the pan (AKA where you need heat) performance-wise.
Thanks for posting this @w00tgurl. I would have missed it. I could use a new one since I ruined the old one on my ex. Just kidding; I only used it in my imagination.
But I am going to get one of these.
@xavoc: exclamation point sleeping bag!
I have a skillet but depending on what si... oh who am I kidding I will probably be refreshing my browser/mobile app Friday night to buy when it goes up!
Now if it were say, a Woot! branded dutch oven... Yeah, I'd be all over that. Woot could do a Camping themed sale day between home, woot, deals, and moofi... Even maybe a kid's tent too.
I've heard od Lodge before, they are actually on of the largest cast iron makers, so, I'm pretty excited about it too...Im hoping $20, and $5 for shipping. @capguncowboy, I bet they do come from Tenn! Puts me closer to! WooHoo!!
I'm guessing $19.99 + $5 shipping.
I have a few Lodge pieces already (from back when they didn't come pre-seasoned), but I'll probably be in for one (or two). Unlike the new shirts, this one's made in the USA. :)
They should sell it for BOC price...And yeah, I might buy one.
I really don't need one... but how can I resist!? Also, I hope it ships from Tennessee... because then I'd be able to get mine fast!
yeah I'm gonna buy one, you can have a cast iron pan forever. As long as its under like 25-30 bucks i'm in
The real questions: Do I stay up until it shows up in the wee small hours of the morning, or do I take my chances and wait until I wake up Saturday morning to see if there are any left?
I was actually under the impression that Lodge was the only cast iron (cookware) company in the US? I thought I saw this on Dirty Jobs/How That Was Made/etc. Can anyone confirm or deny this?
No, we have enough skillets that my wife doesn't u...OWWW. THAT HURT! Maybe we will buy a new one. :::rubs head vigorously:::
I was JUST going to buy a skillet over the weekend. now i'm really glad i waited. :3 This is way cooler.
Love cast iron skillets! Been using them for (unintelligble) years. Love them, I say! But...size matters. (Yes, it does in certain circumstances.) So does the cost. Will wait in excited anticipation.
Yes I will need a new cast iron skillet anyways mine was accidentally taken by an old roommate that I had a falling out with.
I already have a Lodge skillet (6 yrs old now), so yeah...I'll be in for one. Price $14.99 + $5 shipping.
BTW, the flavor that can be achieved from a properly seasoned cast iron skillet is totally unique. That fond-like crust on a steak or burger takes things to a whole new level. From experience, open a window and set your smoke alarms for stun before cooking!!!
@jsoko: No alternative. There is no gas line run to my home and this doesn't work with induction stoves. :/
@xavoc: I have a solution to your problem: Don't use an electric stove.
@xavoc: I thought cast iron worked well with induction?
If we needed a skillet, I'd be tempted. But I'm not going to buy an extra skillet just for Woot-branding...
Well, now that a Woot Off just started, I'm going to say "No", I'm not going to buy a Woot-marked Skillet.
I'll probably be spending my budgeted money on the Woot-Off. If they had sold the skillet before today, I probably would have bought it without a second thought.
I'm really tempted on the skillet... but I kind of wanted the "Yoshi Blue Skillet" more.
But for the fact that I could use this woot skillet to fight off bad guys and horses, sure why not?
(I hope you have seen Tangled).
I do need a cast iron skillet. If it's the right price in for 1.
@xavoc: feel free to use a cast skillet on an electric cook top if you prefer cast skillet cooking. Its more of a liability thing with mfr's(more likely to scratch the cook top with cast, or break it while flipping an egg lol - also depending on the type of glass used (or enamel used, if you have the exposed element style electric) it can become discolored or in the case of glass, cloudy.)
Be aware that if you are still under a warranty period, this might void it (read your warranty) - but not due to any inherent failure (unless you're careless) mainly limiting liability, and carrying over cations from years long gone by. (early glass tops would shatter from hotspots, and a thick heavy skillet doesn't give up it's heat easily, even after shutting the burner. This is a complete non issue for modern glass tops. Exposed elements - unless yours is fairly new or underused...odds are they're chalky white anyways from overheating and years of use, so it still wouldn't matter.
Very cool video. I'd be in for one if I didn't already have a Lodge skillet this size. Heavy beast, but gotta love the crust that it gives food. I haven't used mine in a while, might be time to cook.
I suppose I can use the excuse that I need a skillet to leave in the camper. And @xavoc, I have 6 cast iron skillets and until this past October only used them in/on an electric range. They are great for roasts.
If my check is in the bank by then, HELL YEAH!
YES!!
I guessed closest...and I got a ton of upvotes (before Saturday). @w00tgurl...you're psychic. Or psychotic. I get those two confused.
@rprebel: as promised :) hehe
i'm actually both psychic and psychotic! enjoy your new skillets everyone! lots of good info already in the home.woot product discussion thread
