New Title: Enthusiastic New Members
Americarx has now posted 7 "deals" in the past 40 minutes from their own site. Each deal is a full priced drug store item that you could probably get down the street for a comparable price

Good call. My count is now up to 10 over the last hour or so.
On this as well.
@reemus: Yeah, there was a question commenting specifically on @ktdann, and now it's been deleted. I HATE it when staff does that. What's the point? We're going to talk about it somewhere.
In addition, I'd posted the fact that meritline had signed me up to their newsletter (and yes, I was VERY careful to not opt in to anything, thanks), and I strongly disapprove of such behavior. I won't buy anything from meritline again (and yes, of course, I opted out right away, and yes, I'm grateful for throwaway gmail accounts).
@prettywootprincess: Why are you deleting comments about @ktdann? Please feel free to send me an email if you like, but it's making me feel a bit peckish.
@shrdlu: I second this question?
@reemus: Just to show you my level of paranoia, I make images of questions/answers when I think they have the possibility of being edited/deleted. Yep. I'm just that crazy.
[Edit] Yes, I know that most of the spam was deleted, but that doesn't mean that references to it should be deleted also. How will we know when someone's a repeat offender if their previous misbehavior is removed, like fingerprints from a smoking gun?
(ooohhh, I really like that simile)
@shrdlu: Wow, I had no idea you were THAT crazy! Probably a good idea though.
On a different note, I see staff is dealing with the latest spammer @sovietmilitarystuff who keeps posting single item ebay auctions. He had 10 in 10 minutes, but they are being deleted by staff. Yay for staff on this one. Not so much for deleting @ktdann stuff.
[edit] that is a great simile :)
I @PrettyWootPrincess apologize for deleting comments please don't beat me I have spoken to @ktdann and all is good. I shouldn't have deleted them.
I have contacted @sovietmilitarystuff and trying to deal with that.
@prettywootprincess: I understand now. It was just the deleting with no further information that caught me off guard. You talked to them, you explained, all is good :) <3
@prettywootprincess: All is forgiven. You know that we like you the best.
@prettywootprincess: I'm still kinda mad. Only a Bag of Crap will make me happy again.
@sgoman5674: lol geeezz. I can send you the rest of my Premium Blend of Soy Nuts that are on my desk?
@prettywootprincess: Are they kosher? If yes, then mail away!
@all:
I'm in favor of a new term.
Enthusiastic new member.
Some of these spam lynchings have been directed at innocents who just needed a little hand holding.
Aggravated spamming is a nuisance.
We will deal with it appropriately.
Some of this group can contact us directly.
The tattle is the most efficient communication.
Other creative labels.
Floundering (thereby deserving of shrdlu's dreaded thwacking)
Wholesaling
Swinepearling (casting swine before pearls)
Freeposting
Scarletting (Oh Rhett, I just can't wait for you to see all my new things!)
Any other suggestions for new terms less resembling tar and feathers?
@jumbowoot: I do like the enthusiastic new member! I didn't really like calling them spam since some of them did just join, but couldn't think of a better term.
@jumbowoot: I have no problem with new deal shoppers, who have just found the site, that are trying their new-found wings. They just need to learn site etiquette. On the other hand, commercial posters should use the company name and play fair. Also, I'd have fewer complaints if you showed 200 deals on the first page of fresh. I am not trying to be mean to newbies who are deal seekers. But companies that want free advertising and do not post bargains are targets.
@jumbowoot: I think that we all need to take a deep breath each time we see it, and differentiate between Newbs and Feelthy Spammers. There are far more of the former than the latter. I probably use the word spam on tattles, and will probably continue to do so, because I know that the people seeing it know what I mean, and will act on it.
We should all (starting with myself, of course) make an effort not to make new posts here in AtW, even though it's tempting, without at least trying to make the Title and Description less inflammatory.
Obs: Floundering does have that nice semantic overload. For example:
"Newb: New floundering occuring on Deals
@dealsstaffnamegoeshere: I just saw @theflounder make more than 10 posts on the Fresh tab, and it looks like he's not stopping."
See? Pretty simple, right? BTW, I just made that account (TheFlounder). Much to my sadness and chagrin, Flounder was already taken.
@jumbowoot: I thought "spammer" was the substitute word.
@bsalusa: All enthusiastic new members should be welcomed into the light.
There is no distinction in membership between a retailer and a shopper. Whoever posts the best deal is a member in good standing.
Actually, now that this has moved to Popular, perhaps we could change the Title. It doesn't really involve just one user, and has certainly moved on from that to a more general discussion in any case. Hey, whoever voted for my doppelganger, cut it out. I liked having zero votes. I think it's also an excellent name to use for examples (since we know who it is, there's no feelings to hurt).
@jumbowoot: ++ on the idea that all deal posters are the same, at least when they start out. First person to speak against Erika (she is an example of a good retailer) answers to me. Not kidding.
@shrdlu: Agreed. All members distinguish themselves by their conduct.
Title and tags are now updated.
wtf W00T!!!!
@crowsnest: Go and play. The grownups are talking.
@jabathewoot: I love you. I just L O V E you.
@jumbowoot: In that case has someone spoken to this enthusiastic poster?
@jabathewoot: +++1 whoever you are (@wootvan) is that you?
@theflounder: so this means you can really thwack us
@jumbowoot: I just now saw the changed tags. :-D
Truly perfect. My favorite may be #swinepearling.
too many people are just picky
@realistpm: I don't think that you fall into this category. Not sure why you were mentioned. But then again, I kinda off and on.
sgoman5674... there are a few people on here i would consider huge "brownnosers" and since they are on here regularly, the site moderators have learned to "jump" when they have a suggestion or tattle at something they feel isn't a deal...
its funny how 4 or 5 of my deals were deleted today, which some had votes from other members, just because these snobby-nose-in-the-air members have hit tattle...
i didn't know woot has become so high-class and swanky... what a disappointment
@realistpm: You know, if anyone jumped when we hollered, you'd see the reply button not being flickery any more. I've been smacked down more than once, publicly, privately, whenever I've pushed the envelope.
While I wasn't the one who complained about your deals, I don't find it any nicer when a non-retailer floods Fresh. Everybody needs to just relax a bit. You have 10 things you think are wonderful? Fine. Post a few. Come back an hour later, and post a few more. Give someone else a chance to be seen.
@shrdlu: I thought the thwack was a sign of affection.
@realistpm: Since woot chooses to have 15 items on a page and some users aren't likely to venture very deep into the site, loading many deals in a short period of time drives all previous deals deeper into the site. They disappear off the 1st page of fresh and seemingly into oblivion. It is a shame that they removed items that had shown greater interest from other users. Was it important that so many deals had to be posted immediately or could they have been posted one or two at a time over the period of a day?
@sand4me: Actually, you know that I've said so before. It's rather like the gentle cuff a mother bear gives her cubs. It sends them rolling, but doesn't really cause any damage. That's why I use a flounder. Smelly, not dangerous.
shrdlu... it's nice i didn't have to mention names
bsalusa... i believe the 5 in a row i might have posted were fine... it's not like i was doing it hours on end... it's been 3 days since i last posted a deal and 22 days before that... if it's such a problem then maybe woot should handle it by adding some code to the site where you can post once ever 5 minutes... it wouldn't be anything new... that or making the deals random... either would be a lot less frustrating than all this tattle tailing and deleted deals...
@realistpm:
Those that post ballgags are subject to being closely monitored.
Those that use inappropriate language are subject to being edited.
jumbowoot... deleting the ballgag was completely understandable i suppose... the sexy lingerie must be on the borderline of unacceptable...
and now i understand that closely monitored means not treated equally... that's a good heads up for everyone... thanks
I think we've posted other places on what seems to be spam, but (to get back on topic) we might start thinking about ground rules for the volunteers who haunt the Fresh tabs (both Deals and Ask the Wooters). Sometimes spam is obvious. The crazies that hit AtW with the Timberland stuff were obvious. Other times it's not so easy.
We all need to remember that each and every Tattle generates an email on the other side. That tattle button doesn't work any better (or worse) for me than it does for @jabathewoot or @theflounder, accounts that were just created today, have no voting privileges, and if it weren't for people voting them up, would also have no reputation. We have the Deals woot staff outnumbered, people.
Personally, if I see something that looks like a spam run, I just hit the most recent, and say that the user is either new, or doing it on purpose. No one needs to tattle on every single one. It'll just slow down getting it fixed, and we don't want that.
